How to claim SEISS Phase 5

If you are self-employed and your income has fallen during the coronavirus pandemic, you may be eligible for the Covid Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS).

We are now in the final phase - Phase 5. As with Phase 4, it takes into account tax returns filed for the year 2019/20 as well as earlier returns

SEISS phase 5 is open up to 30 September and HMRC will have contacted you to make your claim.

What period does SEISS phase 5 cover?

SEISS phase 5 covers the period from May to September 2021. Unlike previous grants that just relied on self-employment income being hit by COVID, SEISS phase 5 is based on the drop in your income from 2020 to 2021.

  • If your income has dropped by 30% or more, you'll get 80% of three months average trading profits, up to a maximum grant of £7,500.
  • If your turnover has dropped by less than 30%, then you'll receive 30% of three months average trading profits up to a total grant of £2,850.

The 30% drop is based on income calculations for the year to April 2020 versus the year to April 2021.

You don’t necessarily need to have taken SEISS support in earlier rounds to receive this support.

If you need help working out the SEISS forms, then you can contact untied.

How do I check the status of a previous SEISS claim?

If you've already made a claim (or tried and been rejected) and want to check its status, you can do so on the HMRC website here.  It will allow you to check the status of your payment, update your bank details, check previous grants, check if you think the grant amount is too low and see why you are not eligible.

What should I do if I think I am eligible for SEISS but HMRC has not contacted me?

Contact HMRC if you believe you are eligible but do not receive an invite.

What information do I need to make a claim?

When you come to claim you will need your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and National Insurance Number.

You can find your UTR and NINO reference numbers in your untied account.

You'll also need your Government Gateway user ID and password, and UK bank details including account number, sort code, name on the account, and address linked to the account.

If you cannot remember your Government Gateway ID or password, you can attempt to recover them. You can do this when making your claim by answering some questions about your passport, driving licence, or information held on your credit file.

Don't worry if you don't have a Government Gateway ID either. You can create one when making your claim.

Do I need to report SEISS on my tax return?

Yes! SEISS needs to be reported on your tax return

Here's how to report SEISS and all COVID support on your tax return - and how untied makes it easy.
