The Regions4 Biodiversity Learning Platform (R4BLP) is an open, safe space where all Regions4 members are invited to learn and find inspiration from each other’s knowledge, experiences, and best practices aimed at sustainable biodiversity use and conservation. With Regions4 as coordinator of the Advisory Committee on Subnational Governments to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the R4BLP as its operation partner, we generate technical knowledge that feeds into biodiversity advocacy work at a global scale.

At the R4BLP all Regions4 members are welcome to share their experiences with implementing the objectives of the CBD, in some cases through Subnational Biodiversity Strategies and Actions Plans (BSAPs), as well as their challenges and successes in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at CBD CoP15 (Montreal, Canada – December 2022).

The Learning Platform provides a collaborative environment for cross-jurisdictional exchange, mutual learning, technical capacity building, and it cultivates partnerships among Regions4 members from all over the world. The participating regions share their unique perspectives, identify common obstacles, share best practices, develop innovative solutions, and assist each other in streamlining the phases of design, development, and implementation of biodiversity initiatives.

  • Strong partnerships

The R4BLP partners with scientific experts and and other platforms to spread the best practices, knowledge and experiences and lessons learned from its members.

  • Endorsed by the Convention on Biological Diversity

As operational partner of the Advisory Committee on Subnational Governments to the CBD, the R4BLP generates technical knowledge that feeds global negotiations on biodiversity, particularly those held at the CBD.

Activities and outcomes

The R4BLP is an online platform in which leading regions of the world exchange technical knowledge on critical biodiversity issues. Their work is closely linked to key global biodiversity topics and their outcomes feed into the discussions held at the heart of the CBD. Its reports and contributions aim to share key findings that help shape the subnational implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Webinars of the R4BLP are open to Regions4 members exclusively and are hosted twice every year. R4BLP members are welcome to apply and become presenters or co-presenters of a learning session, by submitting their interests when a call is launched.

All webinars include consecutive translation in Regions4 official languages (English, French and Spanish) and are recorded for future viewing. Recordings are accessible to all Regions4 members on the R4BLP Members Area.

Open call for Regions4 members!

The R4BLP is inviting all Regions4 members interested in presenting their experience and best practices around the topic of the  ambition to protect 30% of the world’s land and water ecosystems by 2030, to participate as speakers in its next learning session that will take place the last week of October / first week of November.

The webinar titled “30% protection by 2030: what it means for regional leaders and how to get there” aims at exploring approaches to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s Target 3 and learn what subnational leaders, who have pledged to the 30×30 ambition, are doing to translate the target into their own realities and strategies, and what needs to be done to get there.

For more information about becoming a presenter, please contact Renata Gomez at rgomez@regions4.org at your earliest opportunity and before October 2nd 2023.
