As part of its efforts to support the local product through its projects, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will organise ‘Supporting Local Manufacturers Forum’ in September, with the participation of its international and local contractors implementing various projects, in addition to the qualified local factories.
The forum will provide an important opportunity to the new and the qualified Qatari factories to learn about new Ashghal projects and the needed materials.
The forum aims to encourage Qatari manufacturers and allow them to participate effectively in projects implemented by the authority, such as roads and infrastructure development projects as well as building projects; drainage projects and sewerage treatment stations; and expressway and beautification projects.
The forum also aims to encourage Qatari investors to establish new local factories, as part of the country’s efforts to increase reliance on national factories.
The forum will provide an overview of Ashghal’s initiatives to support local products and Qatari manufacturers; the locally manufactured materials that will be relied on to implement new projects in the coming years; and the quantities to be supplied of these materials, including road lighting poles, drainage pipes, precast manholes, bitumen, diesel, directional signs, thermal isolating materials, traffic safety materials and other materials.
Ashghal had signed nine new contracts with Qatari companies in July this year for the implementation of roads and infrastructure projects in new citizens’ plots at a total cost of around QR3.6 billion. The projects will serve 5,111 residential plots in various areas throughout the country. These new projects will rely to a higher degree on local manufacturers to source the materials required; the total value of which is calculated as approximately QR1.35 billion.
