🇪🇺 💿 During this mandate we've had some absolute trade bangers. Here they are served on a silver (uh, vinyl!) platter for you; click through some of our greatest hits below 🎧 Which is your favourite? ⏩ The renewed EU trade strategy, set out at the beginning of this Commission, has three important pillars: open, sustainable and assertive. Over the coming weeks, we're celebrating the achievements and legacy of that trade policy during this Commission's mandate. ⏩ The strategy builds on the EU's openness to contribute and support the green and digital transformations of the EU's economy, as well as a renewed focus on strengthening multilateralism and reforming global trade rules to ensure that they are fair and sustainable. ⏩ The EU has taken a more assertive stance in defending its interests and values during this mandate, expanding its trade defence toolbox and updating its enforcement policy. 🇪🇺 In other words: the EU is stepping up its efforts to ensure that its agreements deliver the negotiated benefits for its workers, farmers and citizens. #EUTrade #TradePolicy #GreatestHits

🇪🇺💚🇳🇿 The EU-New Zealand trade deal makes it easy for EU businesses to sell their goods. The deal is especially great for SMEs, the backbone of the European economy. Have a look 👇 🇳🇿💚🇪🇺 The agreement removes duties on all EU goods exported to New Zealand at its entry into force, including on food and drinks and particularly high duties on industrial products. It also eliminates or substantially reduces EU duties on most New Zealand goods exported to the EU. 🇪🇺💚🇳🇿 The agreement explicitly addresses the specific needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in a dedicated chapter. It requires both parties to provide information on market access on a specific SME website. The agreement also creates a 'SME Contact Point' in both the EU and in New Zealand, to make trade information easily accessible so that companies can enjoy all the benefits of the agreement. 🇳🇿💚🇪🇺 We've put together a website about the benefits of the EU-New Zealand trade agreement. 🇪🇺🇨🇦 We are proposing new rules to save SMEs time and money when trading with Canada. 👇 The new rules simplify dispute resolution procedures for SMEs, making it easier for them to access CETA's investment court system. 🇪🇺🇨🇦 The new rules will introduce an expedited procedure for dispute resolution under CETA, to which SMEs and natural persons, as well as claims below a certain level, will have preferential access. It will be possible for these litigations to be heard by a one-member – instead of a three-member – tribunal, and timelines will be shorter. A further streamlining of the rules to improve access of SMEs will be possible following regular reviews. 🇪🇺🇨🇦 The new rules will also contain built-in protections for the State (as the defendant), to ensure that the expedited procedure is used by those who need it most and to avoid abuse. The Commission’s proposal will now go to the Council for approval. Get all the facts: https://europa.eu/!ffdcjB #CETA #Trade #SMEs

🇪🇺🌱 How can export finance contribute to the road to Net-Zero? Here are 3 takeaways from our conference 👇💚 💚 Export credit support for fossil fuel projects is going down, and fast. And the support to clean energy is going up. EU export credit support for the fossil fuel energy sector has fallen by 80% since 2019. The support for renewable energy on the other hand has grown by 75%. This is a major achievement, and we must continue in this direction to reach net-zero by 2050. 💚💚 More and more EU member states are taking concrete step to phase out export credits to fossil fuels. But there's always room for improvement. So far, 15 Member States have published their national plans for phasing out official export finance in the fossil fuel energy sector and they are set to increase project-based transparency on fossil fuel transactions. The Commission encouraged Member States which have not yet adopted a national phase out plan to develop ambitious and science-based policies as soon as possible and encourages all Member States to make their plans public. 💚💚💚 The path forward to Net-Zero is forged nationally but also internationally. We believe that scientific evidence underpins the necessity to shift investment patterns away from fossil fuels towards climate-neutral projects. This is why we will continue to push at the OECD for a ban on export finance for projects in the whole fossil fuel energy sector and for the scaling up of support to clean energy. After hearing from experts across the development and export finance communities, the conclusion is clear: advancing further at the national level, coupled with stronger international cooperation, will be critical to reach climate goals. If public financial actors show the right example, private financial actors will follow. EU Trade is a partner in climate action. Let's get to work. #EUTrade #ExportFinance #NetZero
