IDOM immersed in the progress of Water Loss 2024   Our colleagues Daniel Chamorro Camacho and Teresa Extremo Martín attended the #WaterLoss2024 Congress organized by the International Water Association (IWA), which took place this year in Donostia/San Sebastián. For four days, from April 14 to 17, they explored the latest developments, strategies and applications of international best practices in the management of unaccounted for water.   Water Loss 2024 was a milestone as the first bilingual English/Spanish conference on water loss management. Since its inception in 2002, organized by the Water Loss Specialist Group (WLSG), the event has established itself as the leading global platform in its field.   From the evaluation and design of NRW strategies to the analysis of successes and failures around the world, the fourteen main topics discussed at Water Loss 2024 cover a wide range of critical areas for improving water management and reducing losses. Durante cuatro días, del 14 al 17 de abril, exploraron los últimos avances, estrategias y aplicaciones de las mejores prácticas internacionales en la gestión del agua no contabilizada. Water Loss 2024 ha sido un hito al ser la primera conferencia bilingüe inglés/español sobre gestión de pérdidas de agua. Desde su inicio en 2002, organizado por el Grupo de Especialistas en Pérdidas de Agua (WLSG), este evento se ha consolidado como la principal plataforma mundial en su ámbito. Desde la evaluación y diseño de estrategias NRW hasta el análisis de casos de éxito y fracaso en todo el mundo, los catorce temas principales discutidos en Water Loss 2024 han abarcado una amplia gama de áreas cruciales para mejorar la gestión del agua y reducir las pérdidas. Terna S.A. has awarded IDOM for the #Amfilochia hydro pumped storage project TERNA S.A. has awarded IDOM's architecture and engineering services for the landmark project Amfilochia Hydro Pumped Storage (680 MW) in Greece. The project is being developed by TERNA ENERGY as owner and by Terna S.A. as EPC contractor. Amfilochia Hydro Pumped Storage has been declared as a project of common interest by the European Union. It will be the first Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) plant in operation in Greece. The project is composed by two brand new upper reservoirs (Agios Georgios and Pyrgos, already under construction), an existing lower reservoir (Kastraki lake), two independent underground waterways (one per each upper reservoir) and a single powerhouse with 6 pump-turbine motor-generator sets (Francis vertical, fixed speed). IDOM’s scope of works covers architecture/engineering services for powerhouse, basic design, mechanical/electrical/I&C detail design and procurement technical support. IDOM was already involved in Amfilochia project, developing a key role in the procurement of the pump-turbine motor-generator sets and in the optimization of the overall plant configuration. With this new contract, IDOM reinforces its position as a global player in the #hydropower business, especially in the #thrivingpumped and #storageplants. Pumped Hydro Storage Plants are one of the main solutions to achieve full-scale deployment of non-dispatchable #renewable #energy sources. Therefore, its contribution is paramount to achieve the de-carbonization targets of the electric power industry worldwide.

#LIFEEggshellenCE: how to use #eggshells for making ceramic tiles IDOM attended together with representatives of the CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency of the European Commission the last visit of the LIFE EggshellenCE project. This project aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility of using eggshells as a secondary raw material in the manufacture of #tiles. To this end, equipment is being developed to pre-treat the eggshell in order to separate the membrane from the shell itself, obtaining CaCO3 from a waste product of the #food industry. LIFE EggshellenCE has demonstrated the technical, economic and environmental viability of reusing eggshell from egg production companies in the generation of ceramic tiles, in a clear example of symbiosis and industrial collaboration between two sectors as disparate as the egg production and ceramics industries. Este proyecto tiene como objetivo demostrar la viabilidad técnica del uso de la cáscara de huevo como materia prima secundaria en la fabricación de #azulejos. Para ello se desarrolla un equipo que permita realizar un pre-tratamiento de la cáscara de huevo de forma que se logre la separación de la membrana de la propia cáscara, obteniendo CaCO3 a partir de un residuo de la #industria alimentaria. LIFE EggshellenCE ha demostrado la viabilidad técnica, económica y ambiental de reutilizar cáscara de huevo de las empresas ovoproductoras en la generación de baldosas cerámicas, en un claro ejemplo de simbiosis y colaboración industrial entre dos sectores tan dispares como el ovoproductor y el cerámico. Driving Innovation in Public Transport in Zanzibar!    IDOM is pleased to announce our collaboration with the Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) on an innovative public transport redesign and electrification project in #Zanzibar, #Tanzania.    We have collected critical data on the current Daladalas system with the assistance of 44 KIST students. On April 16, their outstanding work was recognized by the Hon. We have just come back from the #transforming transportation 2024 forum. Organized by The World Bank and WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities in Washington, D.C., this global mobility forum brought together delegations from transport ministries around the world, officials from the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, Asian Development Bank (ADB), INTPA (European Commission). The event was also attended by leading actors and companies in the transport sector worldwide. Uruguay's Central Railway enters the next phase with the successful operation of the first test train. The event, which took place on April 2, marked an important milestone in the launch of the project, with the inaugural line running from UPM's pulp mill in Pueblo Centenario, Paso de los Toros, to the port of Montevideo.   IDOM, with its BIM methodology, has played a key role in the development and implementation of the project, with teams working in offices in Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
