POSITION SUMMARY:
Green River College seeks a tenure-track faculty member to teach realtime reporting courses within the Court Reporting and Captioning department. We seek a highly committed individual who can bring industry experience and leadership in serving students in both the Associate of Applied Arts and Bachelor of Applied Science degree programs.  The college seeks applicants with a commitment to innovate and maintain a high-quality education program, to work with diverse communities, and to cultivate student success through teaching, coaching, and mentoring.

Candidates should have demonstrated administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills, who can work well with students, colleagues, and other staff in a team environment.



The Court Reporting and Captioning program is seeking an instructor who has the ability to utilize a variety of instructional methods to deliver innovative hands-on learning experiences to a wide range of students, ultimately preparing them for the world of work. Candidates should bring experience and expertise that is especially suited to enhancing the success of under-represented and marginalized student populations. Position Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of industry-related courses in varying modalities, which may include the following subject areas: theory, speed development, court procedures, computer-aided transcription, captioning procedures, etc.
  • Participate in program evaluation, curriculum development, and advisory committee meetings
  • Perform programmatic administration duties, scheduling/evaluation of adjunct instructors, work collaboratively with BAS program coordinator
  • Actively market the program and participate in recruitment activities with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Network with industry professionals
  • Perform program-specific advising  
  • Collaborate with Business & Law Division and perform other duties as outlined in the negotiated collective bargaining agreement

     

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of professional experience in the realtime reporting industry utilizing machine shorthand in one or more of the following areas: official or freelance judicial reporting, broadcast captioning, or educational captioning (CART)
  • Associate degree in Court Reporting or Captioning
  • Ability to dictate at various speed levels smoothly and articulately while monitoring a stopwatch for accurate timing  

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Possess state and/or national credential such as CCR, RPR, CRR, CRC, CRI, etc.
  • Prior teaching experience in the field of realtime reporting OR demonstrated experience in training or facilitating hands-on experiential learning approaches.
  • Experience providing academic or career advising to help individuals achieve their goals.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (any discipline)
  • Experience building and maintaining community and/or industry partnerships.
  • Experience developing and writing grant proposals

     

Supplemental Information

This is a full-time tenure track position beginning fall 2020, continuing with annual nine month contracts. The salary will be determined according to the candidate's educational background, teaching experience and applicable work experience. 



This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by The Green River United Faculty Coalition.
