The Position

The Program Coordinator for the Center for Mediation and Dialogue (CMD) has overall responsibility for providing professional quality conflict resolution education and services through effective utilization of a variety of volunteer-based conflict management programs.
 
This position requires knowledge of mediation, program coordination and development, volunteer management, training methods, public presentations, facilitation of group processes and community outreach; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, outside agencies and the general public, communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse customers.
 
ABOUT OUR TEAM: We are a team of four, under the umbrella of the Public Engagement Division in the Mayor's Office Programs.  Established in 1988, the program has a long history of serving the community through various mediation, facilitation and restorative justice programs.  Currently, our programs and services include Community Mediation, Restorative Dialogue, Foreclosure Avoidance Mediation program, facilitation, conflict coaching, along with partnerships and support for Second Home and Washington County Metro Homeshare.  In addition to direct service, we also teach an average of 30 workshops each year.  We are primarily an externally facing department, though we also support city programs and departments with facilitations and trainings as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between the CMD and the community
  • Manage program activities including outreach and communication
  • Develop and produce educational materials for trainings, public involvement activities and program focused events
  • Coordinate and lead Community Mediation Program
  • Develop and lead Community Dialogue Program
  • Support and/or teach workshops and trainings for community members, city staff and volunteers
  • Facilitate goal-setting and consensus-building sessions for partner organizations and city departments
  • Co-manage program volunteers, including recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation
  • Represent CMD attend off-site meetings, trainings and outreach events
  • Support city-wide collaborative projects and programs
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as related to the department programs and services
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years experience as a mediator or facilitator in mediation, restorative justice, and/or related fields; OR
    • Associate's degree with four years experience as a mediator or facilitator in mediation, restorative justice, and/or related fields
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards
  • Ability to meet the Oregon Office for Community Dispute Resolution minimum requirements for community mediators (32 hour Basic Mediation Training and a minimum of 12 continuing mediator education hours a year)
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Ability to pass reference and background check
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with recruitment, training, mentoring and evaluation of volunteer mediators, case intake and referral
  • Experience with program design and implementation
  • Knowledge of strategic diversity, equity and inclusion systems and practices
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Compensation

Wage Rate: $26.94-$36.10 per hour
Starting wage will be determined depending on relevant work experience. The city pays the full retirement contribution to PERS; provides employees with an opportunity to participate in a deferred compensation retirement plan; and offers excellent health, dental, vision and life insurance coverage.
