Iron Orchids #6

Vivian, Midnight Call Girl

Rate this book
Drunk dialing at it's finest...

All it took was a couple bottles of champagne...
And a fully charged cellphone,
For me to go from widow to call girl.
Talking to a stranger in the middle of the night was the push I needed.
To feel something again.
Something safe.

It’s not like I will ever run into him.
We don’t even know each other... yet.
Aaron Skye returns my call the next day,
Sending my well-ordered world for a spin.
Now I'm sober.

After years in the shadows,
I'm starting to feel alive. A sense of normalcy.
Unfortunately Aaron is not who I had imagined.
And his life is anything but normal.

Can I put the phone down and step into his world long enough to realize,
That what started out as careless whispers has smoldered into something more?
A wrong number, could be my Mr. Right.

I loved Vivian's story having been a widow for a few years she drunk dialed a stranger who soon becomes something more Aaron is a professional Basketball player and works his way into Vivians heart when Aaron has a family emergency. I loved Aaron and Vivan as a couple and getting to see the Iron Orchids was a plus the only thing is I wish it was longer and more fleshed out but I highly recommend

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Wow, this was an emotional yet funny story, Vivian and Aaron's story is a good one, you have a sexy wonderful man that will have you swooning, while Vivian will have your heart and take you on an emotional ride. A beautiful slow burn that will grab you from the start and won't let you go easily, so be ready to have a turmoil until the last page.

When Vivian’s husband passed away she stopped believing in happy ever afters for her. After completing her bridesmaid duties for a friend’s wedding all she wants is to go to her room and drown her sorrows. Calling her sister in-law for comfort when she was inebriated may not have been her best decision especially when she dials the wrong number and ends up talking to a stranger.

Aaron was taken aback by Vivian’s call, but he can’t deny that he is drawn to her. They begin a phone relationship which goes so well they decide to finally meet and when they do it must have been fate. Just when things begin to heat up between them, but will their pasts destroy the future they could have together?

Not only are there humorous and heated interactions but this story will definitely touch your heart and it is always great to catch up with the characters we know and love.

What a emotional, intense, sexy, funny, feisty, poignant and touching story that will have you clued in from the very start all the way through the end. Vivian is a heroine that appeals to all readers- she’s spunky, sassy, sweet, hardworking, tough , a widower and most of all, a survivor. How she meets and ends up with Aaron is awesome! I don't want to give anything away... just know Aaron is a few years younger than Vivian, is hot 🔥, is caring about and for Vivian and doesn't hesitate to get involved with her. There are twists and turns that take the story into a way that I didn't see coming. Do Vivian and Aaron stay or will he move on ? Get tissues handy. This is quite a mesmerizing and moving romance.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *******

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A light romance but which disappointed me a little ...
As much as I loved the concept of this rather original romance (an older widowed heroine with a younger top-level sports hero but without being the stereotype of the sportsman who sleeps with everything that moves who meet because of a drunk call ... <3), I was frustrated halfway through the book : the hero finds himself with , he comes back with her, the heroine discovers it but accepts it ... and then that's all ! No drama (I was expecting to see the hero's ex again!), no scene where we discover how they become a couple and adapt to the new situation !!
Very frustrating ><
In short, a romance that had potential but deserved to be more developed !
I've been waiting for this one, waiting for Vivian, who has been around since the first book, to get her HEA again. The first bit broke my heart, Vivian going through loosing her husband.
I loved how Vivian and Aaron met, loved that it was a wrongly dialed phone call and that they both kept it alive. I was a bit surprised when we learned Aaron is so much younger than Vivian, but I think it's a good thing. She needs someone to be the "fun" for her. I also like that she's let the girls know what is going on and they are all happy for her.
I hate what Aaron is going through right now, how he had to leave the game like he did. I think things will turn out ok, but it might be a struggle for a bit.
So this last part was very good. I liked the letter that the adoptive parents had for Aaron, that they trusted him with their most prized possession and how they felt about him in the past and how they let him be in their lives, so that he wasn't a total surprise to Ireland. He did a great job with her, a hard thing to do. I also was glad that he didn't tell Vivian over the phone, but let her know it was something big. That the first minute he was home he reached out to her and told her the whole story. Ireland coming down in the middle of it seemed to made it all more real to them all. I was glad how things ended, glad that Aaron stood up to the press, but also glad that Vivian didn't walk away. Loved the marriage and adoption at the end, it was perfect for this one.
This emotional, sexy and funnier than crap story will make this quarantine manageable. Another LOL hit by the amazing Danielle Norman - a lady that never disappoints and continues to get better and better with each book!! An absolutely MUST READ! One click it TODAY!
Danielle Norman should be a one click author. EVERY SOMGLE TIME!! First, she hits you deep with emotions, then shroud in laughter, love and a close knit family. Her characters are flawed, funny, kind and loving. I’m always so engrossed in her books, I usually finish very quickly.
The characters fees are relatable, hot, and totally hilarious. I loved EVERY SINGLE PART of this book. From the midnight call, to surprises and total chemistry. Hands down, one of my top reads by Danielle Norman.
Vivian is a character that you will fall in love with. Through tragedy, she finds everything she didn’t know she needed. Aaron - well sexy, sweet, and totally swoon worthy!! These characters, along with the past characters who are thicker than theives, will make you fall in love every time with Danielle Norman’s stories.
This was a cute addition to the series but felt a little shorter than the others. I loved Vivian and couldn’t wait to see her happy ending. I was also happy that the male character wasn’t related to the Kristakos family, I was getting a little sick of them!
I liked Aaron and Viv together, and thought how their relationship started was sweet. I liked the addition of Ireland, but did feel it was a little rushed. With her acceptance of Aaron and than Vivian so quickly.
But it still was one of those feel good reads that just made me happy!
For a little while she broke my heart, but along the way she restored my faith in love. Norman continues to march to the beat of her own emotions and empower people like me while doing so. Midnight Call Girl is more than a romance. Vivian and Aaron, take the long road to happiness, but it's a courageously uphill climb. Through the eyes of two broken people, we find strength, hope and words of wisdom. There's beauty within the tragedy.
Vivian marries her high school sweetheart, Eric. They are five months away, being five years married, and trying to decide where to go for, a mini vacation. No woman wants, to live through the trauma, Vivian has. Especially, if the woman is married, to a man in law enforcement.
It's been for years and Vivi is at a sorority sister's wedding. What her reason for attending is extremely? So, she texts, Stella one of her ‘Iron Orchids’ girls. She was done this maid of honor was going to outshine the bride since she had done the same at her wedding. So, she grabbed two bottles of champagne and headed to her room.
Once in her room, doing several well-known dances trying, to get out of her dress. She decides, to call, Erin her late husband’s sister. She was Eric’s twin. But, when a man answers she says she is sorry she was looking for Erin. He replies this is Aaron. Vivi thought she was joking or sick. So, Aaron decides to play along. Realizing she’s drunk and needs to talk to someone.
But, when she talks about missing her man, how lonely she is, and how sex-deprived she feels. It then turns to tears and references to, Eric not being around. Faced with anger toward someone, and, empathy for the men who worked, under Eric who had, to give her some news. Looking up on the internet the key points, he gathers he realizes her husband, was a police officer, killed in the line of duty. The next thing he knows, Vivi has lost her juice and is snoring just a tiny bit.
The next day she is rescued from the hotel and taken to meet up with the ‘Iron Orchids.’ All wanting to hear about the wedding. In the middle of all the fun, Erin calls or so they think. That's why when Stella snatches up Vivi’s phone she puts it on speaker so they all can say hi. Aren’t they all surprised when it's, Aaron asking if she's doing okay? After their four-hour-long conversation? Then he says he will let her get back to her friends and they’ll talk later.
Well, call and text, he does until finally, he lets his guard down, enough to let her know, he plays basketball for a living in the NBA. It's a big deal for her. And two friends, to go as his guests, to one of his games, they had planned, to meet up after, the game. However, he is removed from the game, for a family emergency. Negating, to give her a second thought.
This was so much more intense than I thought it would be. And yet, so cool at the same time. You have the component of Vivi finally having feelings of wanting to move on after four years. Or at least a spark. Then there is the whole cougar aspect of the story weaving itself through the story. Most of all you have a death and adoption in the works leading to a wedding. Loved the book.
Wrong number, right man
Knowing Vivian’s story from previous books, I was expecting sadness, I wasn’t expecting to be bawling my eyes out only a couple of pages in, but that’s one thing Danielle excels at, bringing out the emotions, and it’s why she will continue to be a one-click author for me. She absolutely nailed it in this one.
Danielle has hit a winning formula with her girl gang (not a gang) of friends. Strong women who support each other, and would go to any lengths to look after each other, with no filters and laugh out loud antics, these are women you only hope you can find as friends of your own.
After a few too many drinks after a wedding, Vivian tries to contact one of her friends, but ends up dialling her old number and confusing Erin with Aaron.
Aaron isn’t expecting the call he gets out of the blue, but there’s something about the woman who drunk dialled him that he can’t let go of. When the pair keep up their calls, the heat between them starts to grow.
Finally meeting face to face, there is no denying the attraction. But when a blast from Vivian’s past starts hounding her, and a decision Aaron made when he was younger comes back to haunt him, the pair have to decide if they can make the relationship work, and if it is worth fighting for their future together.
This book had a different feel to it than a usual Danielle Norman book, but in a good way. The girl gang were present, but not in your face, and we got to meet some new faces. There was also quite a lot of time where the couple were apart, but again, this wasn’t a bad thing, it was just a different direction, which I enjoyed.
Vivian is one of my favourite DN heroines, she’s overcome so much and trusting her heart with another man is tough, but she gladly gives it, and Aaron is the perfect man to keep it safe.
Another great story in this series, definitely one I will be rereading soon.
Amazing Read…. I love the women in the Iron Orchid series and their sister with the Iron Badges. These are badass women who when bonded together are strong as nails. They are “always’ there for their sisterhood no matter the reason - be it drinks at Sixx’s Bar, a night on the town or a rally session with tubs of ice cream and laughs.
All that being said, if you’ve kept up with the series, you’ve met up Vivian throughout. She is the widower that owns Sixx’s. She is one tough independent woman. She lost her husband and in her heart and mind he was her one and only. But one “drunken night” she dials up her sister-in-law because she is down and missing her husband. But in her drunken state she forgot her sister-in-law has moved and has a new number - so instead of getting Erin, she gets a stranger that she has a very intimate call with - I mean it’s not like either of them would ever run into one another, Right???
From here the story takes off. There are hilarious moments, sad moments and moments that made my heart soar with happiness. Watching Vivian’s walls come down and the journey with little Ireland’s upside down life is simply phenomenal. (Ireland is a precocious, young lady who will melt your heart in two once you meet her).
Kudos Ms. Norman for giving Vivian a funny, sexy, heartwarming story, with some major bumps in the road. I highly recommend grabbing up the entire series as well as Midnight Call Girl - you won’t regret it. 2 Thumbs Up and 5+ Stars
Vivian, a member of Iron Orchids, owner of Sixes,and a 32 year old widow of four years was a bridesmaid for another sorority sister. She had enough of antics at the reception, grab two bottles of champagne and went to her hotel room. She decided to call Erin, her sister-in-law and late husbands twin. Aaron answered the phone and they had a drunk, great midnight call. He did call the next day to find out if she was okay, etc. They talked or text for the next number of days until he came home to Orlando.
Aaron is 24 years old and the star guard of the Orlando Lighting. He didn't tell Vivian this until he was home. Getting to know each other progressed despite her iron orchids interference and meddling help. Then life takes a surprise take and Aaron leaves in the middle of a game, oonly text her once and disappears for 13 days.
This is a fast moving, exciting, entertaining, page turner, loving story. It is filled with love. This is another awesome Iron Orchids filled book by Danielle Norman. Don't miss reading this novel. It's a true tribute to Vivian.
(5 stars)
The aftermath of being a bridesmaid has Vivian taking some champagne and going up to her hotel room when it's all over. When she decides to make a call to her sister-in-law, she ends up calling the wrong person. Calling a perfect stranger while drunk as a skunk, that's something that Vivian can now cross off her bucket list. What does surprise her is the fact that the very next day, she gets a text from Aaron, the receiver of the midnight call. The two end up texting back and forth and striking up a friendship. When they finally get to the point where they can take their relationship a bit further, will Vivian be ready to enter Aaron's world? Or will the fear of moving forward keep Vivian in place?
YAY, we finally get Vivian's story; we have watched her in the background since the beginning and now she finally gets to come to the forefront and what a story we get! I was not even expecting the twists and turns that this story took, jumping right from the start this pulled me in and turned into an amazing read! I give this 5 stars.
This one was a hard book to read, not because of the writing but because of the themes presented in the book. Vivian is the owner of Sixes, the first responder bar that’s been featured in all the other books.
We’ve gotten to know Vivian through the other Iron Orchids books (if you haven’t read them, go do that now!) so I knew a bit about her. That prologue was heartbreaking and brought back memories of my own similar experiences.
Not gonna lie, I got a good chuckle out of Danielle’s choice to use Aaron as the lead male’s name. Every time I see that name it makes me think of Key & Peele’s skit “Substitute Teacher Mr. Garvy”, personally it added some levity to the book. I really appreciated Aaron’s stance on the media and his zero tolerance for their invasion of privacy.
I do wish there was a bit more relationship development between Vivan and Aaron. They got to know each other over text, but they never really went below the surface and got to know one another.
PS. Danielle, that balloon Haley Loles has got to go.
Super-moving story! This book will tug on your heartstrings from start to finish. You will love the heroine, Vivian! She’s fun, sassy, sexy and a small, but also a strong survivor. Losing her husband was the hardest thing she’s ever faced. But she’s got the incredible support of her Iron Women which is what’s so great about all of the Iron Orchids/Badges/Ladies books. We all need a little bit of Stella‼️😂 Enter Aaron, the striking NBA Lighting player who receives an accidental drunk dialed call from Vivian one night...and so begins their story. Is Vivian ready to let go of her past and move into a future with Aaron? Can she handle his world of celebrity & spotlight? Or will it all be too much after the loss she’s suffered? These are the questions that lead to some gripping moments in this book which add such depth to this story. Some are very unexpected and quite surprising. This is a sweet tender story that’s very believable and will be easily relatable for many. Such a great read with lots of feel good moments. 💗💗💗 Highly recommended❣️
5 Star review of Vivian, Midnight Call Girl (Iron Orchids #6) by Danielle Norman
Well Danielle Norman had me laughing out loud and in tears at the first chapter. My heart broke for Vivian and I knew that this story was going to be amazing. Having read other books in this series, I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for Vivian and Aaron.
This was an emotionally charged book which was a bit of a roller coaster of a read. However, it was such a beautifully written story of love and taking a leap of faith that I was riveted from the first to the last chapter.
I fell hard for Aaron, what a swoon worthy, delicious, caring man, he ticked all the boxes for me and in my opinion she could not have chosen a better man for Vivian to fall for after every thing she has been through.
There was also a great deal of humour and the friendship that Vivian and the other Iron Orchid ladies share is special. They have each others backs, love and support one another with a fierceness that I admire.
A fabulous addition to the series and one I happily recommend.
Review Contains Spoilers
*Spoilers Ahead*
This book made absolutely no sense. Premise of book was widowed h mistakenly calls H, relationship builds from there. A few calls, three weeks of texting and a misrepresentation of his career later, H and h have exactly one date.
Cue complete curveball of H having a daughter which was put up for adoption when he was a teenager, adoptive parents being killed in a crash, and H being granted immediate custody. Next to no communication between the H and h during this time. Child is seemingly unaffected by the death of both parents and H becoming her guardian, because she watched him on TV. H returns home, explains his reason for being gone, and they immediately hook up. One week later they're in love, and live happily ever after.
The entire book was so farfetched it was laughable. Everything fell into place perfectly, with no loose strings or even real emotion. No character development whatsoever. I continued reading solely to find out how the story could possibly be wrapped up with 34 minutes to go.
OH MY HEART. This was the perfect story for Vivian. Vivian, Midnight Call Girl is phenomenal. I love Vivian even more after reading this. In fact I want to see more of Vivian and Aaron. Those two will just grab your heart and will not let go. If you are caught up on the Iron Orchids series then you know Vivian's back story. Vivian is finally moving on. I love the chemistry between Aaron and Vivian. They have a cute way of getting to know each other and you feel the sparks start to build. Learning more about Aaron will just make you love him even more. He is so good with Ireland. I love how Vivian doesn't even take a second to pull Ireland in and love her. This is one of my favorite books in the Iron Orchids series. I want more Vivian, Aaron and Ireland. I couldn't get enough. Your heart strings will be tugged. You will laugh out loud, wipe a few tears and rejoice in the beauty of Vivian, Midnight Call Girl. I know I couldn't put this one down.
I'm so happy Vivian got her HEA. I knew her story would be sad, but I didn't know it would be to the tune of me sobbing just a few pages in. After a attending a cringe-worthy and hilarious wedding she drinks her sorrows away and decides to call her SIL Erin, but gets Aaron instead. They got hit off right away, well at least once Vivian realized she in fact did NOT call the right Erin. Vivian is just amazing. After a monumental loss, she knew she had to move on and let herself enjoy life again. Aaron is so into Vivian, and immediately puts her concerns about their age difference to rest. They share an awesome first date after weeks of talking, and just as they are getting into the good stuff, Aaron is dealt a blast from his past. No spoilers, but I will say that I admired how he jumped in with both feet. He took care of his business and was open and honest with Vivian. I sped through this book, 5 stars from me!
There are not enough accolades to say just how fabulous this book is but it is my new favorite. It is a storyline fraught with heartbreak and the ability to overcome life’s challenges. Vivian lost her husband at a young age and is trying to pick up the pieces after the loss. Lucky for her she has a band of women that are there to support her and a new “friend,” Aaron when she accidentally drunk dials him. These two are just perfect for each other. However, will the past be something that keeps them apart or brings them together? From the beginning, Ms. Norman will suck any reader in with her witty writing style and she does not let go. This is one of those books that will leave a smile on your face when all is said and done. My one comment is that I wish it would have been a little longer because these characters will just sweep you away and all you want to do is keep going. I highly recommend reading this. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.
Drunk dialing
Vivian spent the last few years getting her life together after losing her husband, but sometimes moments were still hard. And sometimes being in a wedding and watching frienemies was even harder. So a little drunk dialing easy blends with new friendship... Even if that friendship is with a stranger.
Aaron didn't expect a drunk dial or to like talking to the caller, just like he didn't expect several sober calls and texts to come from that one night. Life changed by one call and then life changed again by another call....
I really enjoyed reading this story of this little family as it comes together. Even the cute moments about cougar references and interupted basketball tutoring.
Sweet, cute, funny and a family.
Could easily turn this story into a romcom. Older women, younger single dad
Right off the bat, Danielle has me crying when Vivian loses the love of her life. So to start grab a box of Kleenex, your going to need it.
One night after a wedding Viv gets so plastered, she calls her sister-in-law only oops wrong number right name. The guy realizing how drunk she is goes along with the call … now wrong number might become new love…
Aaron plays basketball for the Orlando Lightening. Hes young and handsome but something or someone is missing in his life.
Aaron and Vivian finally meet, and he invites her to one of his home games. While at the game he gets a call that changes his life forever. Tragedy brings change but also brings joy to his life.
Once he returns Vivian learns everything and now wonders if his life and his media attention is worth it all.
OMG this book was so good. Remember KLEENEX you will need them.
OM - freaking G! Vivian is my new fave Orchid. I always knew her backstory but come one - that beginning just tears your heart apart!
I love that we're introduced to all new characters and world (the basketball team/world) while still part of the Orchids world. Aaron is great, overly mature for 24 (he calls her Little one) and completely unconcerned that she's older than he is. Vivian has all the usual hang ups about her age, her looks, that we all have but her girl gang gets her through.
But the outstanding star of the book is Ireland... She's cute, sassy, precocious, sad, hurt, brave and scheming all rolled up into one fun little ball. I see her gathering her own girl #notagang when she's older.
Yet another brilliant book from Danielle Norman and one we've been waiting for forever. Well worth the wait!
This is the tale I have been waiting for since we met Vivian at the beginning of the series! I knew this one would make me shed tears and oh wow did Danielle have me sobbing my heart out at the beginning but it was worth every tear!
After attending a disastrous wedding and drinking a few bottles of champagne Vivian decides to call her sister-in-law and ends up drunk dialling a stranger. Its not long before they end up talking daily and becoming closer.
This story has some great twists that pull on your heartstrings and keep you completely hooked from the very beginning to the end.
Aaron, be still my swooning heart! The way he is with Vivian makes my heart happy and the way he is with Ireland well that just makes my ovaries cry. He is perfect for Vivian.
As always it was lovely seeing some of my favourite characters from previous books and I am looking forward to seeing who we are brought next.
Thanks again Danielle for writing another amazing book.
This book will having you laughing and crying on the same page.
We go from the prologue of heartbreak to the first chapter of Bitch 1 and Bitch 2. (LMAO)
Vivian has a horrible night at the wedding and gets drunk and calls her sister in law( Erin) but ends up drunk dialing her old number and gets Aaron. She is so drunk that she just rambles on about her life. He just listens to her.
What comes next are a lot of sober calls and text and them getting to know each other.
Aaron's life is turned upside down by a tragedy that changes his life.
After with dealing with it Aaron tells Vivian everything that has happened.
All ends well and happy that they all deserve.
*sigh* so much fantasticness
When I first discovered this series I powered through them and read the first 5 in 3 days. Since then I've managed to read every book Danielle has written and am always eagerly awaiting the next one in the series.
Vivian's book has certainly been no exception to that rule. I was eagerly waiting to see what became of the sweet widow and her capacity to love. Would it forever more be given only to her friends and family? Would she find a new mister right? Would she be able to accept it if she did find a new mr. right?
Well, the wait is over and the answers to those questions are in this wonderful tale of heartbreak, survival, healing, and moving forward in life. None of that is ever easy, for anyone. But Danielle Norman handles it all with absolute humanity and fantasticness.
My only "complaint", and it's not REALLY a complaint ... I could have kept reading even more of Vivian's story. But that's the mark of a good book, it sucks you in and when it's over you can't help but be disappointed that it's over already.
Well done, Dani ... very well done, indeed.
The loss of a loved one can cause a rollercoaster of emotions. Younwill begin to ask why them, what could we have done different, will life go on?
Vivian has lost someone special and doesn't feel like she will ever be normal again. One night trying to drink her troubles away she does something that draws the attention of someone and a relationship she thought would never happen.
Aaron is the star basketball player and has had a rough life growing up, he has a secret that he has kept to himself and when a tragedy happens can he keep the secret hidden or is will be more than willing to let the public know his truth?
Looking for tragedy, secrecy and love all wrapped into one, well follow Danielle Norman through this book, it will give all that and more.
