In the supernatural battle of good vs. evil, whose side are you on?

Mary Hunter isn't like everyone else, and she's known it for years.
From brutal fights in the supernatural realm with a demon-like presence, to battling obstacles in the halls of Stonehaven Academy, Mary knows she's different.
She just doesn't understand why.
A student at Stonehaven since kindergarten, Mary enters her freshman year as a typical good student and a promising member of the Saints soccer team.
Then it gets weird.
As her supernatural battles increase, she is drawn into friendships with others who seem to be as confused about their bizarre abilities and encounters as she is.
Now that Mary, Deacon, Ivy, and Scout have found each other, what is their purpose and why? And who gifted these newly-named Warriors, and how do they manage their powers and maneuver the confusing maze of school, family, romance--and the occasional demonic force?

*Thoughts*

Warrior Saints - Creator is the first installment in author Carla Thorne's Stonehaven Academy Saints series. Mary Hunter, Deacon, Russell "Scout" White & Ivy Van Camp are products of misfortune and victims of adversary. Each comes from a broken background and possesses unique abilities. When the four unite, their abilities are enhanced and are often times referred to guardian angels. Even though the story focuses on (4) different characters, Mary is the primary character. Mary is the girl who shouldn't be alive and she fights every night a darkness that wants her back.

Warrior Saints Creator is what every other Christian YA book wishes it were. Gripping story and characters. Spiritual but not preachy. Think Narnia, where the spirituality is built into the story, so it doesn’t have to be preachy. The characters remain true to themselves and don’t function as a mouthpiece for the author. Carla Thorne knows how to tell a story. Can’t recommend this book highly enough.

Truly a must read.

First thing, I want to get the stars out of the way. Four stars for the hard to read point of view. I have read many multiple 1st person point of view stories and struggled with them. Even though the chapter heading starts with the character who is in 1st person I lose track of who that is and especially if I have to put the book down in the middle of a chapter. I rarely finish a story written this way. I did this one for a number of reasons I'll go into without spoilers.

Carla's writing is strong. The people leap off the page. Her vernacular insight of the teenage mind is superb to depict them as sharp and quick witted. Of course, Mary, Deacon, I've, and Scout are not without faults of their own.

Set in contemporary times, what Young adult story would be complete without serious life lessons. There are many in the story. The main one is what bullying can do to people. Children are particularly vulnerable to bullying. Carla addresses the subject head on through her Warrior Saints. Her weaving the message into a good fantasy tapestry takes the preachiness out of her point.

Anyone familiar with bullies will recognize the emotion evoked. Those not familiar with bullying might find it hard to believe some people in the real world are like that. Another thing is Carla touches on the dismissive nature most adults in authority have with children right up to the age of majority. I find that sad and aggravating.

Although, the tone of the book is good for middle grade and up. Adult fantasy readers will get an enjoyable read from it.

Friendship climbs to a whole new level for four students at Stonehaven Academy. Mary, Deacon, Russell (Scout), and Ivy each comes from a broken background and possesses unique abilities. When the four unite, their abilities are enhanced.
This is the first book in a series that looks to be an exciting and fast-paced story of gifted humans in spiritual warfare with demonic enemies. The characters are relatable and believable, the plot line interesting.

My only negative would be the first-person perspective from the four main characters. Though each chapter is labeled according to which character’s POV it is told from, I tended to lose track of whose head I was in (especially if I needed to put the book down in the middle of a chapter). For me, the story would have flowed better if told from a deep third person POV where each character’s name is imbedded in the chapter clearing up any questions.

Aside from my one negative, I feel the story is engaging and I would recommend it to readers of fantasy and spiritual warfare. Though there are some dark things that happen, nothing is graphic. An excellent story for teens and adults alike.

Yes! I am dying to know what happens next. Loved how real and relatable the characters are and how Carla channeled all the angst of high school into the scenes.

Mary and the Warrior Saints each have their own powers granted by the Creator, but they don't know that. The story is an exciting ride as they learn they are better and stronger together. There are forces of evil in their world and they keep finding themselves in a place to make it right. The chemistry between Mary, Deacon, Scout, and Ivy is so well done. Can't wait to read the rest of their story.

Brilliant

Not what you expect at all has you hooked from the first chapter. You want the answer to Mary's questions as much as she does. When she moves to school and makes new friends, things become weirder, still why is this happening to her and her friends. Read and find our am glad i did.

I was not expecting my heart strings to be pulled like this! Talk about a dive into Feels City. So many aspects to pick apart and marinate in later, but first...I need to get book two and see if that holds up as amazingly as this did.

Trust

Ivy, Mary, Deacon and Scout all have something happening to them. Though they know something is going on with each of them they have to learn to trust themselves and each other.

Compelling and exciting story. It is *not* specifically Christian. There is a generic god and generic devil, each with helpers. There is no sacrificial redemption as is pivotal in Christianity.
