The Spark of the Dragon's Heart

Rate this book

One human girl...
Five scorching hot dragons...
A thousand reasons not to want them...
None of those reasons matter!

It’s been five years since my great-aunt and her husband rescued me from foster care - and since I discovered dragons exist. For reals!

Yeah, I had a hard time believing it too, but now I’m learning what it means to be a dragon keeper - a human with special powers who acts as a sort of liaison between dragons and the unsuspecting human world...

When Uncle Max leaves town and entrusts me with my first case, I’m forced to enlist the help of the last five P.I.s on earth he’d want me to ask - his nephews. As much as I want to hate them, for betraying Max, when we all finally meet face to face, the earth shakes with the instant connection between us!

And those powers I’m supposed to have? They seem to grow stronger, the more time I spend with the devastatingly sexy dragon shifters...

But the confusing attraction I have for all five men will have to wait, until we solve this mystery. That’s if we don’t stumble upon an even bigger one along the way...

Spoiler: We do!

Willa Hart

Just like everyone else in the world (except politicians and the entire Kardashian family), Willa Hart hates talking about herself. Seriously, what's she supposed to say? That she's the most talented author in the world? That Liam Hemsworth, Zac Efron and Michael B. Jordan are knocking down her door for the honor of starring in the big-screen adaptation of her latest romance novel? That readers get into hair-pulling, kidney-punching, nipple-twisting brawls while standing in line to buy one of her books?

LIES!

Just like every other wordsmith in the world, she's certain everything she writes (including her own bio) sucks big, fat, hairy donkey danglers. But deep down she hopes and prays YOU are just a little bit delusional and think she IS a great writer, that Liam, Zac and Michael would be idiots to NOT want a part in her movie, and that you'd twist every perky nip you could get your fingers on just to LOOK at her new book. Of course, she's not holding her breath, but...can't a girl dream?

It's ok. Bit one dimensional. I disliked Favors immediate body and heart reaction to the guys, too insta for me and for most of the book she seemed like a foolish and completely incompetent teenager with huge ego. For all the big talk on how she wants to prove to Max that she can be an independent and qualified PI and despite developing some insane powers, she just strings along the 5 dragons and passes on the information her uncle gives her. She doesn't solve anything and doesn't obtain any information on her own. She is spoon fed everything throughout the case.

For an introductory book in to the series, it does a poor job of setting up the playing field and introducing characters. Mostly it is just a factual information dump on authors part without bothering to show the reader anything. Kinda- here, swallow this and don't wonder why or how.

I will probably continue on the next book, but I don't know if I can recommend this to anyone. Purely because I have no good selling point on why anyone should spend their time on this.

And I’ve started another series. A dragon keeper human and five dragons, three brothers and twin cousins. No sex just yet but there is hints of romance and subtle moments. All private investigators so it’s going down the mystery route. I wouldn’t say it’s enemies to lovers as it’s all one sided and very light. Dragons, bonding, violence, a strong MC. Not quite a cliffhanger but questions left unanswered. Favourite part was Chad getting what he deserved. Looking forward to the next one.

Exciting

Dragons are real! They live among humans and unless you're like Favor, a Keeper, you won't know. Not unless they want you to.
Favor was orphaned at age five. Believing to be alone, she was bounced from foster homes for years. Then she was sent to live with her long lost aunt Shirley and her husband Max. Five years later she's still there and living a normal life. Well normal for her.
This story arc has been fast paced from the beginning. Told in first person, we come to know Favor as she settles into life with Shirley and Max. We're also introduced to Max's nephew's as well as more dragons. The action is non-stop and the banter between Favor and the nephews is witty. I have found myself vested in their story and can't wait for the next book!

So if you have read the prequel, The Glow of the Dragon's Heart, you have been introduced to Favor. Here in the Spark of the Dragon's Heart, five years have passed. She is helping out at her Uncle Max's PI agency. When he leaves suddenly to help a friend, he leaves asking her to finish a case he was working on. When it becomes difficult, she has to enlist the aide of Max's nephews. That is when things start to get real interesting.

So, with TGOTDH, I was hooked. Here was this girl, who did not know anything about Dragons finds out that they do exist, and not only that her dad was a powerful Dragon Keeper. So now with TSOTDH, it is five years later and she has settled nicely. Her powers have not started to manifest yet. Which she thought they would being around Dragons. Several things are going on in book one. We have the introduction of the nephews. Like we get a good look at them since they come to help Favor on her case. The five of them are freaking hot. Each one has their own personality, but the twins are cute. They complete each others sentences and are just as hot as the other three. I do not have a favorite at this point. They are all just yummy alpha males.

The female lead Favor, is fun, witty and a strong character. A lot is happening to her in this book. She has so much to deal with, with helping her uncle with her first case, strange things happening to her in the form of her powers forming. Danger that comes with the case, definitely stepping into a different world more fully. With her powers forming, that could only mean one thing, who is she supposed to be a Dragon Keeper to? Especially when she is attracted to all five!

We have a legit scary bad guy who keeps turning up. A mystery to unfold, and five hot alpha dragons, yes dragons!! The pace of the story is solid and at a good speed. The writing style is descriptive but not overly. The fighting scenes were awesome to read, especially since they were in dragon form. Felt like I was watching a movie. I loved it!!

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

Reverse harems are popular right now and I couldn't be happier, I love a good paranormal reverse harem and I have found another to enjoy. The Spark of The Dragon's Heart is the first book in the Harem of Fire series by Willa Hart and it was so good and I had more than a few laugh-out-loud moments and for me, that's a marker for a good book.

Favor Fiske is a private investigator in training and she has some unusual clients, Favor is knee-deep in the world of dragons. When Favor's uncle goes to help a friend he tasks her with a pi job, find a client's brother, but it being Favor's first pi job she enlists the help of her uncles, nephews, all five of them, did I mention they're dragons. Things get kinda crazy from there, Favor gets deeper in the dragon world and the job is starting to get a little dangerous and the more Favor and the guys find out the bigger the mystery gets.

Willa has done such a good job, I enjoyed the story so much and relished the moments when Favor was kicking-ass and taking names. Favor is loyal, kind, smart and has a level head on her shoulders and she's very protective of the people she cares about. She may have had a rough life so far but she still has a good outlook plus she cusses like a sailor and has an attitude but in a good way.
The guys, each are gorgeous of course, but they each are caring and unique in their own way. I can't say I have a favorite but I certainly do like them all and like them for Favor. This is a slow burn romance so things don't get too spicy just yet but Favor has a special moment, a connection with each of the guys and you can tell that things are gonna spice up.

The Spark of the Dragon's Heart was a quick and fun read, not only did the story keep a good pace and kept my interest but it had some pretty good moments. One of my favorite things is to laugh and I had more laugh out loud moments in this book than I have had in a while. I really enjoyed myself and the mystery around the pi job and Favor and her guys are interesting. I am ready for more mystery, magic and of course dragons. I am starting the second book today and I'm hoping to get a little bit more romance and more laughable moments.

This is a really well written story! I absolutely loved reading it and these characters. The world that Willa Hart has created has sucked me in and I am not ready to leave. I can't wait to get the next book in the series! This is the first book in the series but there is a free prequel (not sure if permanently free) that I would recommend reading even though it is not necessary. I loved the insights that we get with the characters from reading the prequel first. You really get to know Favor and her Uncle Max in that way. You get background information that definitely helps with Uncle Max's character and more in depth about Favor. You could start with this one as you get what is needed, just not in the same level of detail which I really enjoyed.
This story pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention the entire time. We get to learn more about what being a Dragon Keeper means and see how it is affecting Favor being around Max's 5 nephews. They are waking up powers within Favor and they are definitely coming in handy. I adored the characters and this story and can't wait to get more of the boys with Favor. This is definitely more of a slow build in the romance/reverse harem aspect. It fits the story and the characters though. I liked it. Favor is not blood related to them (so no incest). She is getting to know the boys and while she is drawn to them all physically she is trying to figure out about it being all of them or not. Nothing has been directly dealt with and talked about yet as there is other issues that they are dealing with. I loved the way that everything happened. It all felt natural and I'm excited to see it continue to develop. I can't wait for the next one to come out!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Favor Fiske was tossed from Forster care home to another until she was 17 when out of nowhere her father's great aunt shirley found her . So she went to live her and her husband uncle Max Novak who turned out to be a Dragon shifter. As this story starts she has been there 5 years how and works part time in Max's business maximus investigation's. Plus she is going to college to take accounting to help max out more at the business. Out of nowhere max drops a case on her then goes out of town. But the guy she needs to talk to is a Dragon and wants nothing to do with a human . Aunt shirley calls in max Novak's nephews (Kellun, Ryen, Danic, and their 2 twin cousins ash and hale. The ones he feels walked out on him to woke for Drakonis security systems. She doesn't know what to do what would be worse do as her aunt says and get the job none or not do it and fail badly.

Lots of action and mystery in this story as Favor grows in her Dragon keeper powers . It has intrigued and really keeps you glued to the story as it unfolds. The author takes her time build a fantastic storyline and characters building. I am loving this, I did read the prequel the Glow of the Dragons heart. At the time I posted this review it was free and that story will fill you in with how Favor being an orphan and shows up and aunt shirley and uncle max's . Really great insight. These two stories are my first time reading anything this author has written and I got to say I really enjoyed it . I couldn't put it down and I look forward to see how this story goes.
Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it

The Spark of the Dragon's Heart is a somewhat balanced book, there is sparks(ha!) of romance and a mystery with a structure of plot that would carry out through the series. It's nothing unique but whatever it delivers, it does it well.

I found the characters okay, the guys are stereotypical but easy interactions with Favor make them more lively. As for Favor, I liked what I saw in this book. She reads like a very relatable character with her thought process and reactions to various situations thrown at her. Even though there is an insta-connection thing between her and the guys, there is still enough banter and talking to feel like there is something developing beyond the obvious lust. I found the guys differentiating enough with them getting some one on one scenes with Favor. I think it helped to make them feel like individuals with their separate equation with her beyond the group dynamics.

For the mystery aspect in this book, it's surprisingly alright and held my attention despite being so mundane. There is just enough things peppered throughout about Favor's developing powers and of course the interactions with the guys that it doesn't get boring. The book successfully creates hook to ensure I read the next one without ending on a cliffhanger nonsense.

I think this book is a nice read for something that feels familiar, uncomplicated and a break from over exaggerated and reactive characters.

Great start

Book one was much quicker paced and exciting compared to the prequel, though the prequel helps understand the relationships between Uncle Max, so? Shirley and the five nephews and how Favor came to be with her Aunt and Uncle.
This book just kind of ends. No resolution to the storyline, just advancing the over all arc. It was really good and the entire series is out, so will keep reading. This is told in single POV form the LC Favor. She works for her uncle at a PI firm that hasn't come out of the middle ages. Max is extremely old fashioned. He still had a rotary phone and refuses to get set cell phone or computer. He had a falling out with his nephews and they now work at a different PI firm. Max leaves town to worn a case and leaves Favor on charge of a case of her own. Since she isn't a dragon, she runs into a problem and has to enlist the help of the five nephews. Her Dragon keeper abilities start developing at an alarming rate. It's fun to see her abilities develop or just happen as it were. Lots of no guys, fun friends and some mystery. The harem isn't in place yet and no one has even talked of relationships. One unexpected kiss. I'd say slow burn, but based on title of book two, that may change.

Buyer beware! This book ends in a cliff hanger! Other than that, WOW! What an awesome tale. I have not read the prequel, but I was able to jump right in and get to know the characters from the first page, and what characters they are! What is not to love? Ms. Hart is a new author to me, but she sure knows how to pack a punch. I am not normally a fan of serials, as I like to read the whole story all at once, but I honestly think this will be an exception to the rule. The tale is well paced story that will have you laughing out loud one minute, and ready to cry the next. The author definitely knows how to grab and keep your attention at all times, and it was proven as I could hardly put it down. I love her characters, who she has managed to balance between the good and the bad, and the plot is exciting, a bit of a rush of adrenaline, and has the underlying feeling of a secret story written between the lines. I absolutely loved it and am looking forward to reading the next episode.
I was gifted a copy of this book, and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.

A dragon shifter book that packs a literal punch and lots of fire!

Wow... Just wow! If you haven’t read the prequel to book 1 of Harem of Fire, you need to do that immediately. If you have, before you pick this book up prepare yourself. It packs a punch. Ms Hart has managed to fill it to the brim with story. Favor’s Uncle Max has disappeared to help a friend leaving her work her first PI case alone. Because of her client’s prejudices, she’s forced to contact the only dragons of any stature she knows within the community, Max’s estranged nephews. This pushes Favor onto the path she was ultimately meant for. She, with the Novak brothers and the Campbell twins at her side, will need to figure out what is happening with the mysterious bad guy that is popping up all over town. They will all need to figure out why she seems to have a connection to each of them, as well. A Keeper is meant for one dragon, right? So how can Favor decide which of these five are supposed to be her dragon?

This book really intrigued me. Who doesn’t like the idea of working with 5 good looking dragon shifters? Favor is a woman who has lived a hard life, bouncing through the foster care system and never really having a place to call home. That is until her great uncle, who is a dragon shifter, brings her to live with him. She ends up attending college and working as an assistant at his private investigating firm. When she is handed her own case she is forced to ask for help from his disowned nephews. The case ends up being more in-depth than she would ever have dreamed. Each time she is around the nephews she feels new powers awakening and feels things that she cannot explain. I can’t wait to see how this series plays out. I’m already in love!

Favor is given her first investigative case when Max leaves town. She’s got to find Enoch, but she is going to need the five nephews’ help to do it. A few things covered in the prequel are mentioned here as part of the build up of the story.
Favor is going to become a dragon keeper. It is yet to be determined who her dragon(s) is/are.
The race to find Enoch sees Favor demonstrating new skills that have never been in her life before the boys. That’s a misnomer if there ever was one. These are men, good looking and of good character men.
This portion of the series is lovely to read. Favor is attracted to all five men, but this is a get to know you phase. I appreciate that the author doesn’t rush this book. Phrasing is pretty respectful.

We pick up 5 years after the prequel, showing a grown-up Favor, still working for Max and Shirley(her aunt and uncle).
He goes to help an old friend and Favor gets her first case, but she needs help, mainly some dragon-y help so the other dragons actually give her the time of day.

This sets off a mystery, following the leads left by Max, meanwhile getting to know the five dragons that are his nephews (these nephews are not related to her by blood in any way FYI, so no creepy incest shit happening here, phew!)

Along the way Favor starts noticing more and more strange powers and this coupled with some little tiny tidbit of information dropped in the prequel makes me think I might know where this is going, storywise. Ah, we'll see I guess

This is a well written book with strong characters and an interesting story line. The author does a great job building the story and pulls you in with tons of emotions as well as all the action, danger and suspense. She adds in twists and turns as well as humor.passion and romance. She brings the story to life with her descriptive writing and detailed scenes and had me hooked from start to finish and left me wanting more with the cliffhanger ending. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next one.

am so glad that I read the prequel first. It made Spark of the Dragon’s Heart more enjoyable.

The Spark sets up Favor and her adventure using all the skills she did not know she was learning while working for Uncle Max. Things heat up as she meets and starts working with Uncle Max's nephews. I loved Zoey and even Rufus. The bond between Zoey & Favor was awesome in the strength and imperfections.

You could just stop with this one, but you won't want to. You'll want to go on and find out what happens next with Favor. If you don’t plan on devouring , you won't get the entire adventure. This is part of series that is best read in order for the flow of the story and enjoyment.

This was my very first time ever reading anything from this author and let me tell you she doesn't disappoint. This fast-paced read had plenty of intrigue and action to keep you hook from beginning to end. Plus who doesn't like the idea of having your very own harem of dragon mens. It's definitely a slow burn since there hasn't been any really intimate moments. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

I don't think it takes special powers to know someone is drunk/drugged. I know it goes with the storyline, but why was Zoe so stupid and out for only fun, not safe fun! I don't understand this!! Free drinks are rarely free!! Favor's tear show over Enoch rang so false imo, that it was laughable. I just couldn't! At the story's end Zoe remains her immature, obnoxious, self and Favor seems to be the 8th wonder of the world-NOT!!! She'll have to get more mature to be taken as more than falling into powers she's not mature enough for!

Great start to a new series. Favor is trying to find her way in the private investigation field and in the world of dragons. She loves her uncle who adopted her and is teaching her about both worlds but then he goes out of town and leaves in charge of her first big case alone. She immediately runs into trouble and needs help. She turns to the last group of people that her uncle would want on one of his cases. Or did she? Favor doesn't understand everything that is happening but her instinc tells her that what she's doing is right. Can she solve her case and will her uncle forgive her?

Alright

No no no! The beginning is a complete disappointment. The use of words like "totes" for college students was driving me insane. If I hadn't read there prequel (which I loved)I would have stopped reading this book immediately. The MC was just ok. She went back and forth with being really weak/ stupid to having insane strength and being over confident. Overall I wish she was more interesting and more relatable but I do want to know what happens so I'll read the next book.

PI Adventures and Sexy Dragon Shifters

The Spark of the Dragon's Heart is a funny, adrenaline-filled slow-burn reverse harem, or the start of one. Favor is one of the best heroines I have ever read and the Novak brother's and their cousins are absolutely adorable. I don't normally like slow-burn romances because they exasperate me but the way Willa Hart weaved comedy, action and crime mystery made me forget my complaints with slow-burn romances. I really enjoyed the read even when all I got of sexy action was some measly kisses. LOL.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Dragons are real, and Favor is a Dragon Keeper.
She acts as bridge between humans and dragons.
On top of that, she is attracted to 5 dragon shifters.
Not 1, but 5
What will Favor do ?
You will have to read the book to find out.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Awesome start to the series!

My first read by the author and it did not disappoint! This was a fun read, the characters were awesome and the storyline was amazing. It will grab you from the start and have you wishing for the next book a.s.a.p. since it does end in a cliffhanger. I am so happy that this book and author was recommended to me and can’t wait for the next book in what looks to be an amazing series.

Quick and quirky

I read the prequel after seeing the series mentioned in a book group I enjoy. It was intriguing and convinced me to buy the first in the series. Knowing that Willa Hart only releases the first book after she’s completed the entire series, makes buying them feel like an even bigger win. The books are fun with many pop culture references the characters are well developed.
