Clifton “Cliff” Finch, is one of the Virgin Islands most talented Bassist, playing throughout the territory, Caribbean and national level for over 50 years. He continues to play alongside most of the Virgin Islands renowned musicians of diverse genres, with great emphasis on jazz.
A few weeks ago, Cliff Finch, began experiencing severe chest pains. He immediately went to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital. After a series of tests, it was diagnosed that he suffered a heart attack. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for round-the-clock observation, where he stayed for three days. It was further determined that Cliff would have to travel to Puerto Rico for more extensive evaluation and recommendation. He was airlifted to Puerto Rico and admitted to Hospital HIMA in San Pablo, Puerto Rico. The results of his tests showed severe blockage to several arteries. Cliff was informed by the doctors that he would have to wait a few weeks to strengthen the heart before he would be able to undergo surgery. Cliff was sent home and returned to Puerto Rico today (7/18/19) for his pre-admission/evaluation and consultation.
UPDATE: August 8th:
OUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED!!! On Tuesday, August 6th, Cliff underwent open-heart surgery, which was very successful. The doctors anticipate a full recovery. Although he is experiencing a bit of pain and discomfort, his spirit is very positive. Cliff thanks each and everyone who continue to lift him up in prayer, call to check on his progress and contribute to his wellness in one way or another. The outpouring of love and support gives him the inspiration to plan his future wellness strategy. While he realizes the road to recovery is not and easy one. He is committed to making the changes necessary to ensure a healthier lifestyle.
As most of you know, the music industry in the territory has been extremely challenging for quite a few years, particularly after Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Musicians have been struggling to find venues to make money, with the closing of all our major hotels, clubs and restaurants. Musicians, particularly of the jazz genre, have been forced to play mediocre gigs for little or no money. This, coupled with Cliff’s inability to play for the past month has created an even greater financial hardship.
The purpose of this GoFundMe page is to help Cliff with expenses incurred after his surgery. It is our hope that through your generous donations, he will be able to experience financial relief during his recovery. Thank you again, for your support and contributions to this worthy cause.
