Ennistymon Streetscape Public Art Project Selection

2 November 2021

Closed for submissions
Submission deadline: Tuesday November 23, 2021

Clare County Council with support from Connect the Dots would like to invite everyone in the community of Ennistymon to tell us your views and thoughts on the proposed artwork for the Ennistymon Streetscape Public Art Project as part of the Tourism Destination Town Project.

Funded by Fáilte Ireland, the aim of the project is to develop Ennistymon’s untapped potential as a destination where visitors want to stay and experience the local culture. ‘The Púca of Ennistymon’ designed by Aidan Harte is inspired by the town’s horse fair, equine heritage and Irish folklore. It has been provisionally selected by the Council through its open competition submission process in accordance with the Arts Council General National Guidelines for selection.

The proposed location of the Púca is across from ‘Blakes Corner’, the bridge that currently brings traffic out to Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher. It is important to note that Clare County Council is progressing the by-pass of this part of Ennistymon and with the completion of the bypass, the streetscape will no longer incorporate the view of traffic congestion. It is envisaged that the commissioned piece will be visible from the new bridge as you look North.

You can have your say on the artwork by:

  •  Filling in the online survey below by 23rd November
  •  Handing in a hard copy of the survey to the Ennistymon Area Office at Ennis Road, Áras Contae an Chláir, Ennistymon, County Clare, V95 YX81
  •  Spreading the word and sharing the survey

Clare County Council has paused plans to erect this art piece in Ennistymon to enable a broader public engagement process to take place following local objections. Please let us know what you think about the art piece by filling in the survey below. Your views and what you would like is important and we want to hear what everyone in the local community of Ennistymon has to say.

Your insights will be shared with Connect the Dots and an anonymised report will go to Clare County Council for their review. The results of the survey will guide Clare County Council and Fáilte Ireland in a final decision in relation to the proposed artwork.
