17 Things The Anti-Racism Protests Have Already Changed

A lot has happened in two weeks.

1. First, all four officers who were involved in George Floyd's death have been arrested and charged.

2. The Minnesota Department of Human Rights filed a civil rights charge against the Minneapolis Police Department in connection with George Floyd's death.

3. Minneapolis officials agreed to ban the use of chokeholds. Other cities are following suit.

4. LA Mayor Eric Garcetti pledged to redirect as much as $150 million from the LAPD budget to youth jobs, health initiatives and "peace centers,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

5. Mayor Bill de Blasio pledged to cut New York City's police budget.

6. Minneapolis committed to dismantling its police department.

7. Confederate statues have been taken down across the country.

8. Cities, including Minneapolis, Denver, and Portland, are removing police resource officers from public schools.

9. New Jersey announced several law enforcement reforms, including expanding their use-of-force database and launching a pilot program to expand crisis intervention training.

10. "Breonna's Law" is being discussed in Louisville. The ordinance would regulate no-knock warrants.

11. The Dallas Police Department announced numerous new policies, including the duty to intervene "when force is being inappropriately applied or is no longer required."

12. The Denver police introduced multiple changes to department policy. This includes a requirement that officers notify their supervisors any time they point a gun at another person.

13. Tulsa will not renew its contract with the TV show Live PD.

14. House Democrats have proposed a police reform bill.

15. IBM will stop selling its facial recognition programs for "mass surveillance or racial profiling."

16. Portland's white police chief stepped down and has been replaced with Chuck Lovell.

17. Finally, millions of dollars have been donated to the Black Lives Matter movement.
