This Museum Challenged People To Re-Create Artworks At Home, And I Highly Recommend You Take A Look

    Quarantine, but make it culture.

As we approach what feels like day 653 of quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic, many restaurants, bars, and cultural attractions in the US have been closed for weeks.

But the fact that no one can physically visit these places hasn't stopped people from experiencing what they have to offer, thanks to things like food delivery, livestreamed events, and virtual Disney rides.

Since visiting an art gallery is out of the question, the folks over at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles have come up with a creative way to keep art lovers occupied — by challenging them to re-create famous artwork at home.

We challenge you to recreate a work of art with objects (and people) in your home. 🥇 Choose your favorite artwork 🥈 Find three things lying around your house⠀ 🥉 Recreate the artwork with those items And share with us.

The challenge, posted on Twitter, prompts people to use three things they have lying around at home to replicate their favorite work of art.

People have been posting their re-creations on Twitter, and they're just amazing.

Finally, a use for those failed attempts at baking bread.

@GettyMuseum "The Ermine Portrait", c.1585. Nicholas Hilliard. Hatfield House. Glad we found something to do with the burned sourdough bread.

    It's a real family affair.

Yeah my family’s doing great in isolation thanks for checking in. Nothing strange happening here at all. #gettymuseumchallenge @GettyMuseum

People are even getting their pets involved.

#betweenartandquarantine: Fuseli’s The Nightmare. The challenge from the Getty is to recreate a work of classic art with everyday objects. What? What are you doing with YOUR evenings? 🤣

(But some seem more enthusiastic than others.)

    Better than the original, IMO.

All the classics have been done.

Today we delivered 85 face masks to the #ATX community and made many more. And then, while sewing, I saw the @GettyMuseum challenge. I present to you: Rosie the Riveter turned Rosie the Seamstress!

Like this one, which perfectly captures what royalty looks like in 2020.

Honestly, I can barely tell the difference.

I remade Varnette Honeywood's Green Peas for Money, Peas for Luck for Terri Diane Stroud and I was happy to do it BECAUSE I AM STAYING IN. #remake #flattenthecurve @GettyMuseum

This one throws the "three-item rule" out the window, but it looks so good that I'll forgive them.

Some of the portraits are just spot-on.

I'm late to the #gettymuseumchallenge. Anyway, this is my normal face now. Hope you're all well.

Oh, you thought that was it? No, there's more. And they just keep getting better.

If I was going g to recreate anything for @GettyMuseum’s challenge, it was obviously going to be Waterhouse.

    Seriously, A+ for this one.

Here's my photo for the @GettyMuseum challenge #BetweenArtandQuarantine

    And for this one, too.

Judging by this sock masterpiece, I think yes.

@GettyMuseum great wave off kanagawa. Made out of blankets and socks.

    The resemblance here is uncanny.
