Energy Event highlights opportunities for Liverpool City Region firms in the Renewable Energy Supply Chain

The Future of Offshore Wind event which took place in Liverpool on October 9th

Earlier this week business support project LCR Future Energy hosted a range of key speakers from the Renewable Energy industry to discuss the future of Offshore Wind and the potential opportunities for businesses in the region. The event took place in Liverpool at Sensor City and was attended by local SMEs and industry professionals.

Guest speakers at the event included Senior Supply Chain Development Manager Peter Clusky, from green energy company Ørsted, who highlighted how growth rates in the Offshore Wind sector were exceeding those of all other renewable technologies.

Other guest speakers included David Owsin from Liverpool based firm Hutchinson Engineering, and Nick Hoult from painting and training provider, Offshore Painting Services. These two local businesses shared with the audience the lessons they have learned during their growth in the Offshore Wind sector.

The event was timely due to the update of a potential new leasing round for the Offshore Wind industry released last week by The Crown Estate. Gwynt y Mor Offshore Wind farm in the Liverpool Bay area has been selected as one of the locations for potential extension.

Project Manager for the LCR Future Energy project, Pedro Rivera, commented on the event stating. “It was a great turn out this morning which shows the real interest from Liverpool based businesses to enter or grow in this sector”.

He added, “The potential expansion of the wind farm in the Liverpool Bay area would create real opportunities in the region for local companies wanting to enter or grow in the Renewable Energy supply chain. LCR Future Energy can support SMEs to map the supply chain and their position within it”.

LCR Future Energy is a business support programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is delivered in partnership with Inventya Solutions, Inventya and Liverpool John Moores University.

The project offers a range of business support to SMEs in the Liverpool City Region who would either like to grow in the renewable energy supply chain or enter it. Firms can be trading in any sector, from tech to manufacturing, but must want to enter or grow in the Renewable Energy supply chain.

The project currently has a round of grant funding on offer which can reimburse firms with 30% of their costs for external consultants and 25% of tradeshow exhibition costs if eligible for the support.

LCR Future Energy is part of the Liverpool City Region Local Growth Hub.
