Arctic Congress Bodø 2024
29 May - 3 June 2024

Join us at Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 for a unique event that combines the International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences (ICASS) XI, UArctic Congress 2024, and High North Dialogue 2024.

The congress takes place from 29 May to 3 June 2024 in Bodø, Norway, hosted by Nordland Research Institute and Nord University. An extraordinary illustration of Arctic co-operation, we bring these three conferences together for the first time in Bodø (European Capital of Culture 2024) -

The congress includes high-level plenary sessions, several parallel sessions, network activities, and social and cultural events. This brings excellent opportunities for researchers, policymakers, businesses, and students to increase their connectivity and knowledge exchange on Arctic issues. IASSA and UArctic will also hold their assemblies.

The Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 takes place on Sámi land. The congress’ logo honours the local cultures and we welcome you to Bodø in Lule Sámi, Pite Sámi, Norwegian and English!

Buorisboahtem Bådåddjuj ja Vuodnaj!

Burist båhtem Buvvdaj Vuonan!

Velkommen til Bodø, Norge!

Welcome to Bodø, Norway!

High North Dialogue 2024

The purpose of High North Dialogue, organised by the High North Center at Nord University Business School in Bodø, the European Capitol of Culture 2024, is to create a dialogue between the young in the High North and leading politicians, businesses, researchers, government officials and other stakeholders in the High North.

Together with the Arctic Congress, in a year where Norway is holding the Chairship of the Arctic Council, we genuinely embrace the young generation in the Arctic.

By merging three conferences into one, we are extending our cooperation with UArctic and IASSA. This promotes sustainability and demonstrates that important conferences can be organised in an environmentally conscious way.

ICASS XI - The 11th International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences

IASSA and our International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences ICASS are pleased to welcome you to the Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 together with UArctic and High North Center for Business. We welcome you to a congress that is both true to the spirit of ICASS and to the spirit of Arctic collaboration. When welcoming you to Bodø, the host city, we are also cognizant of the fact that the city is located on Sámi land and of the many voices and perspectives that constitutes the Arctic. Bringing three conferences together in Bodø is an extraordinary showcase of Arctic cooperation and aligns with sustainability goals such as reducing CO2 emissions and increasing partnerships. The Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 will provide excellent opportunities to exchange knowledge, and to meet and connect across the Arctic. The themes of the congress align with Norway’s Arctic Council Chairship program in partnership with the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

UArctic Congress 2024

UArctic is pleased to partner with the IASSA and High North Centre to bring our three key events together as the Arctic Congress Bodø 2024. This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting meaningful discussions among diverse stakeholders.

The event will bring together all of our members, networks and partners to exchange knowledge and chart a course for a positive future for our region. In conjunction with Norway's Arctic Council chairship program, the Arctic Congres Bodø 2024 also underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing the Arctic's complex challenges.

Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 is held in Norway and the Congress aligns with the Norwegian position on sanctions against Russia. The Norwegian sanctions do not affect researcher-to-researcher collaboration but do not allow participants representing an official Russian institution. Therefore, no sessions or activities can be chaired or organized by Russians employed by or representing Russian institutions. Russian researchers and students affiliated with Russian universities and institutions can only attend the congress as a private person.

Representatives from the Arctic states are bounded by sanctions issued by their countries and will have to abide by these rules when organizing sessions and activities. A committee representing the hosts and organizers of Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 will in cases of dispute evaluate and decide whether proposals for participations of Russians in sessions and other activities at Arctic Congress 2024 aligns with the Norwegian sanctions and other Arctic states’ sanctions.
