A selection of recommended or mandatory courses (including discount opportunities) is displayed suitable for Amsterdam Public Health PhD candidates.

EpidM courses

Every year EpidM organizes courses in epidemiological and advanced statistical methods and a Master’s Program in Epidemiology (including international Winter Courses). The courses can provide important support in the design and analysis of your research. The dates of the courses are now available and from now on you can register.

For PhD students of VU Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC (both locations VUmc and AMC) working on a project that is embedded within the Amsterdam Public Health research institute (APH), a discount of 25% applies to the course fee of the courses and/or the Master program in Epidemiology. A condition for obtaining the discount is that the research project is embedded within APH. This means that the project must have been approved by the Scientific Quality Committee of APH and has received the official embedding letter with a SQC number. For embedding your project, go to the Scientific Quality page. Once your project is embedded you can claim your discount by sending in the discount form. For more information read the terms of payment of EpidM.

Course Intersectionality and I

Are you a junior or PhD researcher interested in making your health research diversity-responsive? Do you enjoy interaction, reflection, collaboration and challenging discussions? Or do you just want to make this world a better place? Then this (online) training (3 ECTS) about intersectionality and health organized by APH researchers is recommended for you!

The training is suitable for both qualitative and quantitative researchers. You do not need to have experience with intersectionality to enter the course. This training is for junior researchers or PhD students. Our main focus will be public health, but the topics covered are relevant for other health-related fields. APH researchers get a 25% discount.

Training Participatory actionresearch (PAR)

There is increasing interest in participatory action research, but how do you do it right? Participatory action research (PAR) offers starting points for involving people (patients, citizens, experts by experience, professionals, policy makers, etc.) in research in a meaningful way. PAR is about research with and for practice and people whose lives or work are the subject of study.

In this 4-day Dutch training (3 ECTS) of the School for Participation we pay attention to the underlying principles and values of PAR, the theoretical background, quality criteria, ethics, and the influence of the (organizational) context on the research process and the role as an academic. Knowledge of qualitative research is required. Preferably by having followed a training course, but submission of a written motivation is also possible. APH researchers get a 25% discount.
