There is something about the remoteness and sea-locked nature of islands that make them accessible, exotic and adventurous all at the same time.

Capturing images of wildlife is why I became a photographer. Several years ago I had the great fortune to see a tiger in the wild and didn’t have the skills to create a memorable shot. At that moment I decided to be better equipped the next time a similar opportunity arose and started studying photography shortly after that trip to India. In the years since, trips to Africa and Asia have given me the a wonderful chance to hone my craft. It’s still remains my favorite genre of photography.

These images are from a workshop several years ago. Having never photographed nudes, my first thought was how vulnerable I might feel as one of the models; so I chose to reflect this vulnerability. I wanted the images to create the impression that I had intruded on the privacy of these women.

Asia inspires my photography more than any location on the planet. Everything seems so completely exotic and different. All my senses are challenged by the aromas, the brilliant colors, the sound of the languages, and the spice of the foods. I’m awestruck at the beauty that is so unlike my own world.

I’ve spent much of my life exploring the outdoors. I grew up surrounded by forests and fields, and this environment shaped my life forever. It’s no surprise that my photography is directed toward the natural world more than any other subject.

While there are many stunning new buildings, I’m most compelled to capture structures that have seen the test of time. Abandoned buildings, in particular, hold a great allure for me. It makes me wonder about their history, the stories of the people who occupied them, and why they were considered unworthy to save.

These images were taken on a train trip from Northern England to London several years ago. Scenes from trains windows are a glimpse of a countryside not meant for public view. The back alleys, fields and underpasses provide a different reality and an unintented view.
The temples surrounding Siem Reap, Cambodia, are beyond my imagination. Their construction in the 12th century is a testament to the intelligence and imagination of the Khmer people.

Pinhole is an early form of photography from the mid-1800s. That a photograph can be created by merely allowing light to pass through a pinpoint of a needle seems rather miraculous to me. I am drawn to the soft, ethereal images produced by this historical process.
