Natural nut spreads start-up Pip & Nut has completed an oversubscribed pitch on equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, raising £120,000 across just nine days.

Founded by Pippa Murray, the start-up is launching a natural nut butter brand in three initial flavours; coconut almond butter, almond butter and peanut butter.

Pip & Nut said it aimed to champion the role of nuts as part of a wholesome diet and active lifestyle, and capitalise on growing consumer demand for healthy, protein-rich food.

The start-up’s Crowdcube pitch proved extremely popular with investors, with Pip & Nut exceeding its original funding target of £100,000 through investments made by 81 Crowdcube users.

The funds raised will enable the brand to go into full production, with a target to launch in stores within the next couple of months.

Alexis Lui, an investment analyst at Crowdcube, said: “We’ve found that food and drink is a popular category on Crowdcube.

“Investors find that exciting brands such as Pip & Nut can be an appealing opportunity, as it’s a tangible product that we all understand and enjoy, from the supermarket shelf to the kitchen table.”

Pippa Murray, founder of Pip & Nut, added: “Prior to going live on the platform I was confident that Pip & Nut had a clear proposition, a strong brand and the potential to disrupt a growing category making it an appealing investment for an angel.

“It’s great to see that assumption validated with a fully funded crowdfunding pitch.”
