Please try to limit video footage to significant speeches, music, and poetry as 95% of all videos are accessed wirelessly via smart phones. So by posting non essential video footage (such as people mulling about at a rally), we are inadvertently corroborating telecom’s pitch that consumers are “demanding 5g.” We are not. We are demanding safe, fast, reliable and resilient hard-wired connections.

NEXT GLOBAL PROTEST DAY APRIL 25TH (ALTERNATE DAY, APRIL 26TH)

The next Global Protest Day is set for Saturday, April 25th with an alternate day of Sunday, April 26th. We realize these dates are coming all too soon, but so are the towers and satellites, so we really don’t have time to wait. Please also consider coordinating your 5G event with Earth Day gatherings on April 22nd as environment and wildlife will be hugely impacted by 5G and the Internet of Things. (For more on environmental impacts, please see the section on Wildlife below.)

Bringing the global protest day momentum back to your neighborhood one door at a time.

A major focus on the next Global Protest Day will be on local action. We encourage people to use the Protest Day Events as a venues for organizing locally: Have sign-up sheets, dates set for meet-ups, conference calls etc. Arrangements can be made to go door to door educating your community about the many and multifaceted harms of 5G and inviting people to take action to reclaim our future.

NEXT STEPS FOR THE ASTRONOMERS' APPEAL: STARTING LOCAL INITIATIVES

The first global initiative by professional astronomers to protest satellites began a few weeks ago with the Astronomer’s Appeal. After gathering around 2,000 signatures of astronomers, the Appeal is now ready to be used at the local level to increase awareness by governments and NGOs of some of the harms that will be caused by satellites. Concerns related to the impact of large satellite constellations for astronomical ground based facilities are described in a dedicated scientific paper here:

The paper reports how astronomical ground-based observations can be greatly harmed by the ongoing deployment of large satellite fleets intended for the next generation of telecommunications. SpaceX is the biggest project with plans to fill the entire sky with about 42,000 satellites at different altitudes visible during the night at all wavelengths (mainly in the visible and radio spectrums). Together with the loss of scientific content from ground-based observations making radioastronomy quite impossible, an additional danger is that these satellite constellations could impair our ability to prevent and warn humankind of possible impact events from asteroids and Near Earth Objects. Finally the deployment of all these satellites will bring about the likely scenario described in 1978 as the Kessler Syndrome making impossible further satellite launches due to the large amount of debris orbiting the Earth.

At this stage of our work, all signatories of the Appeal become protagonists entering the front line by individually contacting local institutions, agencies, and governments, to request legal action by the International Court of Justice. Satellites constitute an international legal problem shared among nations. Not only is US SpaceX involved, but by February 6th, UK OneWeb will be launching satellites.

Moreover to safeguard the astronomical sky by putting on hold further launches of satellites for commercial purposes, requests for legal action will help preserve a World Heritage for humankind — because no commercial and/or private business can be put above the Human Right to admire the natural sky as it has been for millions of years.

Abstract:
Radio-frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) can be absorbed in all living organisms, including Western Honey Bees (Apis Mellifera). This is an ecologically and economically important global insect species that is continuously exposed to environmental RF-EMFs. This exposure is studied numerically and experimentally in this manuscript. To this aim, numerical simulations using honey bee models, obtained using micro-CT scanning, were implemented to determine RF absorbed power as a function of frequency in the 0.6 to 120 GHz range. Five different models of honey bees were obtained and simulated: two workers, a drone, a larva, and a queen. The simulations were combined with in-situ measurements of environmental RF-EMF exposure near beehives in Belgium in order to estimate realistic exposure and absorbed power values for honey bees. Our analysis shows that a relatively small shift of 10% of environmental incident power density from frequencies below 3 GHz to higher frequencies will lead to a relative increase in absorbed power of a factor higher than 3.

"The fifth generation of telecommunications technologies, 5G, is fundamental to achieving a European gigabit society by 2025. The aim to cover all urban areas, railways and major roads with uninterrupted fifth generation wireless communication can only be achieved by creating a very dense network of antennas and transmitters. In other words, the number of higher frequency base stations and other devices will increase significantly. This raises the question as to whether there is a negative impact on human health and environment from higher frequencies and billions of additional connections, which, according to research, will mean constant exposure for the whole population, including children. Whereas researchers generally consider such radio waves not to constitute a threat to the population, research to date has not addressed the constant exposure that 5G would introduce. Accordingly, a section of the scientific community considers that more research on the potential negative biological effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) and 5G is needed, notably on the incidence of some serious human diseases. German environmental organisation Bund signs petition to stop 5G in Hamburg Feb 13th, 2020 | Telecompaper
The electro-smog working group of German environmental organisation Bund has delivered a petition with over 6.000 signatures to the First Mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, opposing construction of a 5G network in the city. Bund believes that the expansion of 5G should take place only after testing the impact of the new technology on health and the environment.
Other large European cities such as Brussels, Florence and Geneva have urged a stop to 5G expansion, according to the organisation. In Switzerland, the municipality of Kriens has decided to stop giving approval for construction of so-called adaptive antennas for 5G networks.

"A landmark legal case has been launched against the world’s largest tech companies by Congolese families who say their children were killed or maimed while mining for cobalt used to power smartphones, laptops and electric cars, the Guardian can reveal.
Apple, Google, Dell, Microsoft and Tesla have been named as defendants in a lawsuit filed in Washington DC by human rights firm International Rights Advocates on behalf of 14 parents and children from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The lawsuit, which is the result of field research conducted by anti-slavery economist Siddharth Kara, accuses the companies of aiding and abetting in the death and serious injury of children who they claim were working in cobalt mines in their supply chain."
