A pastor who spoke at a Democratic National Convention meeting on Monday who suggested that those who do not support open borders will “go to hell” has ties to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
Dallas-based Pastor Frederick Haynes III of the Friendship-West Baptist Church spoke at a Monday breakout session at the convention, a black caucus faith event, alongside other faith leaders.
“And you had the nerve to build a wall while at the same time you have in the harbor there in New York a Statue of Liberty saying, ‘Give me your tired, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,’ Jesus will say, ‘America, if you don’t get your act together, you can — you may well go to hell,” Haynes said. “Why? Because in as much as you do it to the least of these, my sisters and brothers, you are also doing it unto me.”

Haynes has previously praised Farrakhan, who has a history of making anti-Semitic remarks.
In 2017, Haynes tweeted out a photo he took with Farrakhan after delivering a commencement address and called Farrakhan a “wonderful and great man.” In another tweet responding to another Nation of Islam leader, Haynes said it was a “great honor to be in the presence of The Minister.”
Haynes heaped praise on Farrakhan as far back as 2015, when he called the Nation of Islam leader “a prophetic leader of our time” while voicing support for Farrakhan’s “Justice Or Else” movement.
