I actually really enjoyed this final book in the duet. Considering I have been having a rough time being able to focus my full attention on books right now... I felt this story did a great job at holding my attention! The only complaint I have is that the last 30% of the book took a doozy of a turn, and at times I felt it became far fetched! I docked a star for that... but even so it took me away from reality for a bit! For that reason alone I’m not going to complain too much!

How did this get so many 4 & 5 star reviews?
description

“I will do anything I can to make these men lose everything, even if it costs me my soul.”

If you read my review of Under His Rule you know I wasn’t a fan of this duet so far. Probably asking yourself why am I reading this one huh? It’s simple, just because I don’t particularly like it doesn’t mean I’m not interested in how it ends and to see if my prediction early on is accurate or if it’s really as shocking as others have hinted to. Besides, Under His Rule left me with far too many questions to not at least attempt to find the answers to. But most of all, I secretly hoped that this one turns out to be good making the entire duet redeemable......one can wish right?

My two MAJOR problems with UHR were Natalie and the lack of a romance-vibe within the story. I couldn’t believe any type of deep feelings were present bc Wild didn’t do anything to set those up as believable. And don’t get me started on Natalie and the way she acted and treated those around her......
description
I only hoped by the time this book reached the HEA she was a better heroine. At the very least, I could deal with a heroine I hated as long as I believed in their love story. Welp......that didn’t happen. In fact, this is the very first book I’ve read where a HEA happened WITHOUT THE HEROINE EVER TELL THE HERO/ANTIHERO SHE LOVED HIM. (unless I missed it, did I miss it somewhere in this clusterfuck?) There was so much promise in this story yet it was a total miss. There were two redeeming qualities......Marsha and Emmy along with the pure ridiculousness and hilarious moments within scenes I’m not totally sure were meant to be comedic. This IS NOT a romance, this is a failed attempt at a female empowerment story.
description
The only thing this book did for females is create a perfect example as to why men assume we can’t lead a country or have too much power......but more on that later.

Book Facts:
Told in: Dual POV, present day with some time jumps (weeks) to push story.
About: The second installment of the His Duet picks up where book one left off. You must read Under His Rule first. Natalie and Abby escape the Family, but after a brief taste of freedom they are brought back. It’s time to take the power away from the men, and it’s up to the women to make it happen. But will Noah be a trusted member of her circle or one of her enemies? Does Natalie have what it takes to bring the entire broken system down?
Safe Read? It does include some crazy violence/death as well as some domestic violence.
Ends in: HFN-ending with epilogue.

My Thoughts:
There is no point in dragging this out or attempting to find the positives.....they are easy to single out and can be summed up quickly. Marsha, Abby, and the laughs I got throughout this book even when I’m sure I wasn’t supposed to laugh.......example?
Suddenly, Marsha runs into the hut with an ax in her hands, screaming her head off. “Why won’t you just die?!”
description
....I laughed way too hard in this moment.

Now let’s get down to how this went so completely wrong (buckle up, it’s going to take a while):
1. No romance. Instead it feels like they both are only together for their own selfish reasons. Some sex, he admits his feelings multiple times (one of those feels authentic) but in the entire book she NEVER once tells him she loves him.
description
In fact, a lot of the book isn’t even involving them together or in regards to their relationship.....and when they are together it’s to throw in a sex scene. This was marketed as a dark ROMANCE!

2. I’m happy with the overall state of the community by the end, BUT my God did it make me cringe that this “revolution” was planned and started by a woman (or two). I mean why is it that the men are the ones in books to conquer or defeat their enemies with precise and perfectly carried out plans? Why when a woman FINALLY gets the opportunity does her plan remind me of something I would come up with while on my period completely hormonal and irrational?
description
If I were a member of that community it would make me second guess allowing women to be in charge of ANYTHING. I mean I was waiting any moment for it to be a joke and then reveal their actual plan.

4. I appreciate that Natalie is the “hero” of this book BUT he did a complete 180 and became a powerless little pussy in this book.
“NOAH!” he yells, and our eyes briefly connect. Then I slam the door shut behind me and run like hell.
description
.....see? I don’t want my hero (or antihero) to run from a fight because he’s scared. She was Batman, he was Robin. This went against who he was in book one.

5. There are contradictions in this book——like after he tells her he loves her, he’s crazy about her, etc and she admits to another woman she loves him, to herself that her feelings have changed towards him and that she knows he loves her......she questions if he has fallen for her and if she’s fallen for him? That’s already been established BUT I guess we have to be given another reason not to believe in their love instead of using this time to develop their relationship.

6. There were some things that made no sense or were completely unrealistic....
Like escaping only to go to her own freaking apartment like she didn’t know he would come there to get her.
description
Or killing someone with one swing of a pot roast.
description
Or her starting a riot publicly and then not comprehending why it turned violent. I mean it turned into the church scene from the first Kingsman movie making me see this......
description
......which was unintentionally hilarious BUT absurd.

My Verdict:
description
This is a confident NOPE for me. I hate I feel like this because I LOVED Cruel Boy so freaking much. But this book blew my mind in a completely different way, it had the “bones” to be such an impactful and phenomenal read yet didn’t hit a single one of those marks. Definitely landed in my duds of 2020 shelf but I’m not giving up on this author quite yet.

Wow ! What a conclusion this was to this terrifying and ugly tale and another read that kept your heart pounding and had you on the seat of your pants the entire time never knowing what would happen next.

I honestly loved Natalie as she was fierce and protective and determined and one not taking her captivity lying down. She was strong and beautiful and smart and always watching and listening and calculating. From the moment we met her we new she was destined to be a force to be reckoned with.

Noah although a Patriarch you new he was different from the rest of them in the sense that he loved his community and its people but, not the way the system worked and the unfairness of it all and the brutality of it and that is why he always desired change and new he needed a queen to make that happen.

This story is emotional and it has a lot of moving parts and as the story unfolds those secrets started coming to life.I have to say we never saw things playing out they way the did and we just loved that. The chemistry between Natalie and Noah just burned hotter. We loved them as a couple. These two burned brightly!

Overall a terrifying tale that makes you heart sick and sad but, one so intriguing it kept you glued to the pages the entire time.Book one left us with one heck of a cliffhanger and I am so glad that I was able to start book two right after putting part one down as I dove right in with eagerness and new that this was yet another tale that I would not be putting down until its very conclusion.

Overall this was another amazing read and the story well written and sometimes reading something out of your comfort zone is just what you need to shake things up a bit and this story did just that. One thing about this story is that it all felt so real and that you were with its characters in that very place and time along with the good guys and the villains as well.Noah and Natalie took us for one heck of a ride that is for sure but, we loved getting to know them both so different but, yet the same in so many ways.Noah and Natalie will be a couple not easily forgotten.

EXCERPT:

At nightfall, I go to her home.
I’ve always known where it was, but I wanted to forge a plan first so we could capture both girls and bring them back alive and unharmed. Unfortunately, there’s no time for that anymore. The guy probably already took Emmy, which means Natalie knows we’re here and that I’m coming for her.
No time to waste. I have to act now.
I ring a random doorbell and wait until a stranger picks up his phone.
“Hi, I have a delivery for you,” I lie.
The guy presses the button, and the door to the building opens up. Too easy.
I go in and run up the flight of stairs, just in time before the man whose apartment I rang walks outside to wait for his nonexistent package. I’m already out of sight, and I quickly go up to her apartment door.
I wonder if she’s home.
Without waiting, I ring the doorbell.
No one opens up. Guess not.
Fuck. I hope she hasn’t run already. But it’s worth waiting. Maybe she’ll come back.
I fish out the key I stole from her the moment we took her and stick it into her door. It opens with ease, and I step inside and look around. I’ve never taken a look around. The last time I was here, it was solely to use her laptop to announce to her job she’d quit and to tell her landlord in writing that she’d be vacating the place.
I would’ve never guessed I’d actually come back here. Or that she would.
She’s clearly been here, as there’s stuff all over the place, blankets, clothes, water dripping from the faucet, used cups. I guess she ran off in a hurry … but to do what?
I look around the place and notice the door opposite to the bathroom is open. What’s inside immediately captures my attention. A changing station … and a crib?
Her scar.
Of course.
Why didn’t it dawn on me sooner?
A smirk spreads across my lips as I slide my hand across the table and touch the butterflies on the wall. Cute. Exactly how I imagined she’d decorate a nursery for her child.
But where is the child? And why does this room look as though it’s been perpetually stuck in time?
No wonder she refused to tell me about the scar on her belly. She’s afraid I’d use it against her … or worse, that I’d find her kid and use him to keep her with me.
I don’t blame her. I would’ve done the same thing if I was her.
Family above all.
Suddenly, the front door creaks, and I spin on my heels and look.
There she is, hazily walking through her apartment as though she’s lost in thought. But the minute she spots me from the corner of her eye, she stops in her tracks. Her pupils dilate as she turns her head. The shock on her face is exhilarating.
“Hello, Natalie,” I say with a grin. “I’m so glad I finally found you.”

To say this conclusion wasn’t adventurous is an understatement. We pick up right where we left off and it’s wild. Book 1 represented a United front for men to rule, be in control and have power over the community. Well book 2 is the complete opposite. This morphed into a female empowerment movement with physical violence and unbelievable craziness. Defiantly not ready to see this coming. This author completely jumped the shark and well it’s all downhill. Writing is good but e wet thing else was a waste of time. I just wanted to know how it all played out at the end. Not the best.

Beyond His Control is the PERFECT ending to this duet. While reading this second story you will feel everything you would expect to feel, anger, desperation, love, hopelessness, hope, and at the end faith for these people that are in this Family and have little or no say in their lives. I understand that the Family is a cult and that a lot of them are born into it, but when the change needs to be made, it surprises me how many of them go with the change.

Natalie and Noah's ride is wild and in the end beautiful once you get into the end of this story. I read this story in one sitting because I had to know how it ended. No one was going to bother me until that last page was read.

Clarissa brought us another duet that will bring you to your knees until the very end!

This was really hard to put down!

I found in the second half of this story I was much more invested than I had been in the first book. I felt seeing the true colours of the characters made then more appealing too.
Twist after twist kept me turning the pages.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

It’s Beyond Their Control😳

Wow, a suspenseful and wonderful ending to this duet😁 I have to admit there was one phrase and even though it was quite sad and dramatic, it made me laugh even though I shouldn’t have but I could literally feel the frustration coming from this particular character😂 I won’t say more than that about this as I think experiencing it for yourself is best😍

Natalie and Noah find themselves once again on the outside of the community until drastic measures force them back to the community. Now, locked away separately they both decide it’s time to step up❣️A good, suspenseful read and a good dark duet to sink your teeth into. I received an advanced copy and I voluntarily leave my honest review❤️

Well, I gave the first book 5 stars cause it was so good actualy. I felt the love in it. But, this, in fact life can't last with us killing any more, they'd killd and killd just without any rights, only to live a better life, and get rid of the evil. And I don't think any more that we can survive with this bloody thing. They were Killin like it's the normal way to save the world. I know that this comunity was really bad however, we can never ever live this bloody violent life

4.5 "really, really liked it" stars!

Lord, yes! This one was a page-turner! I couldn't put it down!

This book had one of my all-time favorite elements: a woman escapes her captor significant other, then lives in fear while on the lam. The tension mounts as you wonder when he will find her (because of course he will find her). Ah, I love it. I could read books like that all day, erry day.

The plot of this book just didn't quit! Twists, turns, secret plans, allies, enemies... it was all so good! And as predicted after the first book, the author did successfully convert me into a Noah fan. Because I was not in his fan club at the end of book one. I was firmly in the "f*ck Noah" club. And not literally. But then all was fixed in book two. Sigh.

And that flashback scene toward the end? Of Noah? That was worth a solid half of a star just by itself. Clever. I loved it.

I found this duet to be immensely satisfying. This was my first introduction to Clarissa Wild, and I will definitely be reading more. This woman knows how to keep me glued to my Kindle (app), and I am so here for it!

Two months a wait definitely is too long – at least with BEYOND HIS CONTROL. After that mf of a cliffhanger I couldn’t get my hands on book two of Clarissa Wild’s His Duet fast enough! And it’s such a remarkably worthy continuation of Natalie and Noah’s story – unexpected and jaw-dropping. One unique, refreshing, intense and utterly addictive roller coaster ride. So, so good!

A story that sucks you straight into the cult community. It’s insane how real it all felt. Don’t expect to do much else once you’ve started the book. The powerful characters will hold you captive, unable to stop reading.

Mystery and suspense – lies, deceit and games – hurt and trust – and of course twists and turns that have you forgetting what’s up and what’s down. Amazing world-building and characters and one insane – in the most positive way – storyline that is so typically – yet not – Clarissa Wild and left me hungering for more.

What more is there to say? I won’t spoil a thing, what I am going to say though is that you definitely should not miss out on this raw and all-consuming original duet if you’re a lover of dark romantic suspense – but even if not, this story will have you switching to the dark side. *evil grin*

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

My biggest mistake was seeking out Noah. He wants to own me. Ruin me. He took me to his home, a community he rules called "The Family". Just so I could become his wife. When I find out who he truly is..who I'm supposed to be...I run. But this man is no man you could ever run from. This man will come to claim my heart...forever.

This is the sequel to Under His Rule. You need to read that book first before diving into Beyond His Control or your going to be lost. I will go ahead and warn you that his is a dark book and may hold triggers for some people. I was so happy to have this book in my hands. I couldn't wait to get the rest of Natalie and Noah's story. This book picks up right were Under His Rule left off. I am so scared I am going to give something away from this book and ruin something for someone. This is where you find out if Natalie can escape the cult. However if you have read the first book you and I both know that Noah is not going to let that happen. With that said though there is no denying the connection that these two have. I loved both these books and Beyond His Control will leave you breathless. I loved it so much.

There aren't many authors out there who can do dark & twisty like Clarissa Wild, and make all stories completely original, and yet, she keeps doing it over & over again. Beyond His Control is the conclusion to the Duet, so guess what?! YOU HAVE TO READ Under His Rule FIRST & FOREMOST! It feels like it's been FOREVER to get this conclusion, though in reality, it's only been 2 months, but that's how deeply I craved more. The twists & turns are next level, as the twists are completely turned out, while the turns are so very twisted up, leaving me in such shock that I couldn't even keep dropping f-bombs. There's something about cults that seriously just set me off, and while I do feel every emotion under the sun, they're all covered in extreme rage. The lies are off the charts, which means they will be uncovered, but never once the way I pictured what really what happened. This is a Duet that I will revisit over & over again because I know that I missed so many things as I was turning the pages like a crazy woman. So, it's time for you guys to hit those one click buttons, as you can't go wrong with the diabolical Clarissa Wild! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Let’s start with what I liked about this book. The writing was great and the story kept me interested. I did want to put it down once I found out it was all about a cult but I decided to give it a shot. The plot was intriguing and was a fresh story. Now what I hated about this. Most times, I thought the heroine was STUPID!!!! In this second book she escapes but decides “oh let’s go back to my house where the cult knows I live.” Really?!?! Even if you have nothing, you don’t go back to the place where they will find you. She was just not a relatable character. I also thought the two main characters didn’t really have that much chemistry or have something that they bond over. I was not the biggest fan of this book but I will read other books by this author to see what else she has to offer.

What a perfect ending for this duet!! Natalie and Noah Are Back In part two of this psychological duet. This begins where “under his rule” left off but can Natalie truly escape the cult? What truths will she uncover and what of Noah. No matter where he is from, the connection they have is undeniable. Can he get her back and finally admit the full truth? Will they ever truly be safe from “the family.” A Dark & Psychological Romantic Suspense book that you cannot put down. This was a wild ride and I Love Noah and Natalie’s journey!! Told in dual POV

Beyond His Control by Clarissa Wild is book Two in the His Duet. This continues the story of Noah and Natalie. So you really need to read the previous book 'Under His Rule' before starting this one.
We pick up where we left off with Natalie trying to escape but being brought back to 'The Family'. The family is a cult type family who all about control. This book / duet has had me reading as fast as I could to find out what would happen next. This is a dark read so there may be triggers for those who have dark read issues. I enjoyed this book / Duet. I hope to read more from this author soon.

Wow, Natalie and Noah's relationship to one full of mystery. This book is intriguing, dark and mysterious that took my emotions is a lot of directions. I'm not sure if I loved them or hated them. They broke my heart but I wanted to strangle them at the same time. I cannot imagine being forced to live in the type environment that she was. I'm glad that for the most part those places aren't around anymore, it's a miserable way to live but if it's all you know I guess you can except it. Natalie has seen and witnessed more so she can't accept it
Perfect ending for this duet.

★ Finally…a choice of her choosing ★

—>>> Escaping the The Family’s compound was a life and death matter, one afforded by an unexpected ally. Now free, it is only a matter of time until they catch up with her as she tries to jump start the life she had left behind before she began her search for the meaning of the symbol on her handkerchief, her one connection to the past. Much happens in this second book, a rocky road to their HEA, but perfect for them, nonetheless. Great read of a restrictive and oppressive culture brought to life.

Never saw the ending coming on this one. Clarissa did an excellent job picking up right where book one left off with the complexities of the characters, Noah and Natalie's relationship and the community. This book tool me on a thrill ride with unexpected twists and turns that had me eagerly turning pages. I really did love Noah and Natalie's relationship and his support of her growth while they were trying to work toward a mutual goal.

Yikes. What a story. This is the sequel so make sure you read book one Under His Rule first. So after reading book one I couldn’t wait to read this and I sure wasn’t disappointed.

This story consumed me. Noah and Natalie... wow what a story. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen and I’m glad I didn’t try.

This duet is another exceedingly great read by this author. My favourite so far by her and I do believe I’ve loved quite a few of hers already lol

Natalie is an outspoken, determined young woman with a protective streak. Noah is the ruler of his family and her husband. He is ruthless and cruel but different from the others in the family. He and Natalie have an undeniable chemistry and the sex is off the charts. The secrets and lies abound in this story as well as the twists. A dark, thriller of a read.

I feel that this book (and including the first of the duo) is a horrible attempt at creating a romantic sort of Handmaiden's Tale that truly falls flat on character development and a very scattered plotline. I have no emotion toward these two books except for "meh."

So I have mix feelings regarding this is second book. Mostly bc of Natalie. I can say I'm not a fan of hers.

Basically in all 3 books including the prequel Noah has always loved Natalie even as a child. He was the one who saved her and help her escaped as a child.

Throughout both books he basically shows he loves her, tells her so, sacrifices for her yet she continued to doubt him. And even though mentally she says she loves him not one damn time does she even tell him.

When her father has Noah and Emily being excuted by hanging he makes her choose who will die she has the nerve not to choose. Mind you he's there bc of her.

Then when she's going into labor she doesn't even ask for him to stay.

Then her idea of a revolution is killing ?? And the women are being sexest as well by wanting women to rule? Her POV is very self centered. Noah was willing to die afterwards bc since was in a position of power he knew they will try to kill him. Luckily her mother gave her common sense by saying to make an announcement. Thank god. But poor Noah never always got the short end of the stick with him thinking of Natalie and their baby to protect them where she only thought of herself and then her baby but never Noah smfh.

Turns out Noah was the one who planted the book about poison for her mom to find to kill the president. So it was his set up.
