Publisher's summary

Save the date for this funny and poignant novel of family, friendship, letting go, and moving on by the award-winning author of Room to Breathe.

Once upon a time, Melanie Layton and Tennyson O'Rourke were inseparable - but their friends-4ever promises were shattered when an explosive secret was revealed at Mel's wedding, a secret that destroyed her family. The two haven't spoken for the past twenty-some-odd years, and they'd be happy if they never crossed paths again.

But now Mel's daughter and Teeny's son have fallen in love - and announced their engagement.

Which means the two women must tolerate one another and play nice long enough to plan their children’s dream wedding. From the beginning, they clash. Melanie imagines a classy, elegant event, in keeping with tradition. Teeny's vision is a bit more extravagant, and thanks to her habit of marrying well, she's got the cash to plan the flashiest wedding of the season.

Complicating matters are the men in their lives: Tennyson is falling for the wrong guy, and Melanie is trying to hold on to a flailing marriage. Amid the flurry of cake tastings, dress fittings, seating charts, and bridal showers, Mel and Teeny confront their past mistakes - with twenty years of pent-up drama.

When the day of the wedding finally arrives, their friendship might just be something old and something new.

I laughed out loud more times than I could count! Great quarantine book for getting in touch with your best idea for yourself! I laughed I cried and reassessed and looked for myself in the characters!!!! Non traditional, traditional story and yet just what my soul needed!! I love Liz Talleys writing it is like a warm blanket against the cold! Read her morning glory series it had similar wisdom! I purchased this book on audible and sent it to my teen girl! There are so many thing I want her to know and this book will help start the conversation!!!! Be healthy and well to all

A Best Frienenemies Delight

With perfect quips of “Sweet Home Alabama” and all the heart of “Steel Magnolias,” Liz Talley’s “The Wedding War” tells the story of best-friends-turned-enemies Melanie and Tennyson, who must face each other and their pasts when Melanie’s daughter and Tennyson’s son announce they are engaged. But the story goes beyond a tale of “Code Hot Pinks” and wedding cake fights, delving into the messiness of mistakes that can’t be undone and buried family secrets that can destroy when brought to light or when held too tightly. I listened to this story while running and found myself chuckling at some points and wiping extra “sweat” from my eyes at others. Ms. Talley has written a story that cuts right to the heart of our relationships as wives, mothers, daughters and, especially, as friends. I highly recommend!

Nothing Quite Like a Good Grudge

If <i>"War of the Roses"</i> and <i>"Father of the Bride"</i> had a love child, this would be it. This tale is a great blend of raw emotion and uproariously LOL funny. It's a story that's purely epic in the making and comedic in the telling. BFF's, a promise broken in the most despicable way, and families forever changed. But a generation later...boy meets girl, they fall in love, and two families who never intended to see each other again are about to be intertwined.

From the wedding planner to the parents of the happy couple, each person is uniquely crafted to bring just the right touch to this wedding party. One thing all of these characters share (with the exception of Tennyson's Hot Cop boyfriend), is an overwhelming sense of pride in one form or another that creates a blind spot for them. While they deal with their blind spots, we get a great side-splitting comedy.

The Wedding War

Absolute laugh out loud fun! I enjoyed this one in audio and had such a good time and loved the narration, it was perfection! Melanie and Tennyson were best friends through school until after senior year when Tenny left for New York and her boyfriend took up with Mellie. Now, there are some things that are just not done even in the South but bless her heart Mellie always wanted Kit and she ended up marrying him and when Tenny was invited to the wedding she came and had her revenge. Now 20 some years later their kids are engaged and it is going to take an act of God to bring this crazy train back into the station. This one was so good with lots of feels. Definitely a keeper.

Nice ending. Didn’t know what the end would bring.

Seemed unreal unusualbehaviors. Children portrayed well. The two friends were not typical of anyone I’ve known,

Don't do it

I wish I would have listened to the little voice in my head saying, Don't waste a credit on this drivel! But I needed a lighter listen compared to what I usually listen to, and this definitely was not it.

The characters were so unlikeable: rich, spoiled, whining brats with kids that are the same. I usually power through and listen to the whole thing, but this is the one time I can't waste one more minute on this ridiculousness.

Like, oh, my God, I think racoons are my, like, my favorite new animal. Did a 15-year-old girl write this? Just terrible.

Unfortunately, I can't return it due to the 2-for-1 sale, so lesson learned.

BFF

This book had a slow start for me. I really was not fond of either character. They started to grow on me at the end. The ending was good I like the narrator.

Lite read

I needed something lighter than the murder mystery’s I was listening to and this hit the spot.
