Fatima Zaman is an activist of British Bengali heritage, specialising in women, peace and security.
Having witnessed the London 7/7 Bombings, Fatima has dedicated her life to activism toward building peace, security and overcoming extreme violence in conflict. Having served as an official to the UK Government, her work involved advising Government ministers and the late 7th Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan.

She continues to work with key partners globally – including the United Nations – to enhance and uphold human rights. Fatima strongly advocates engagement and dialogue around matters of faith and integration to achieve sustainable peace and security.

Fatima was recently named as the UK’s Asian Woman of Achievement, with judges commending her for her internationally ground-breaking work on bringing improvements to peace and security in conflict countries. In 2018, Fatima was invited to form the Inaugural Class of Obama Scholars, at the behest of President Obama and Michelle Obama, representing the UK and her diverse background. In 2019 she became the first person of British Bengali heritage, to be featured in British Vogue as one of seven ‘era defining’ activists. Throughout her work, she has used her access, platforms and voice to advocate for youth peacebuilders in the global arena.
