One Million Stars Ireland

What we do ?

Amber’s One Million Stars Ireland project is an inclusive community arts project connecting communities across Ireland in solidarity against domestic abuse and all forms of violence.  Each eight-point star woven represents light, hope and solidarity against violence, promoting our project’s eight points of healthy love within relationships.  Stars are curated into our travelling ‘LOVE’ installation, spreading love and hope for a future free from violence and abuse for all in our community.

Why we do it ?

Connecting communities through the art of star weaving and group star weaving workshops, Amber’s One Million Stars Ireland project has worked with diverse groups including TY students, care home residents, Syrian women’s groups, Respond, Rehab Ireland, Mental Health Ireland, Family Resource Centres, Healthy Ireland, Irish Girl Guides, Irish County Women’s Association, Irish Wheelchair Association and many other groups, businesses, and individual star weavers across the country.  We launched the project in Kilkenny in 2019, there are now star weaving communities in 18 counties across Ireland.  Together we have already woven 100,000 stars to end violence in Ireland.

Amber’s One Million Stars Ireland project is part of the global One Billion Stars project, founded in Australia in 2012 by artist Maryann Talia Pau after the rape and murder of an Irish woman living in Melbourne.  The project was brought to Ireland by Art Therapist Siobhan McQuillan and Amber Women’s Refuge.
