Fatih Birol, a Turkish economist and authority on energy, has been leading the International Energy Agency (IEA) as its executive director since September 1, 2015. During his tenure at the helm of the Paris-based global organization, he has implemented numerous initiatives to update its operations. These include enhancing partnerships with major developing nations such as India and China, and intensifying efforts towards clean energy development and achieving global net zero emissions.
