The CENSUS held its first online presentation on April 5, 2022 (the invitation's text follows). At that time the CENSUS's new website, moderngreekliterature.org, was opened to the public, featuring the "Greek Authors 19th-21st centuries" section. -------------- INVITATION to a WEBINAR “Greek Authors 19th-21st centuries — The CENSUS website” Tuesday April 5th, 2022, 19:00 (Athens time), 12:00 (Boston time) The ‘CENSUS of Modern Greek Literature’ project is organizing a first presentation online. Please join us on Tuesday April 5th, 2022, 19:00 (Athens time), 12:00 (Boston time) to hear more about the current state of the CENSUS and its future outlook. As you are aware, “The CENSUS of Modern Greek Literature: a bibliography for the English-speaking world” aims to facilitate access to Greek literature for speakers of English by providing references to (all) English-language translations of modern Greek literature and to (all) studies in English that relate to modern Greek literature from the twelfth century AD to the present. The event features the presentation of the “Greek Authors 19th-21st centuries” section — the first to be made available on the CENSUS website under Open Access. This most recent phase of the project was completed, with the support of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, through the collaboration of two ad hoc teams of researchers / fellowship recipients — in Boston and under the aegis of the Marilena Laskaridis Chair of Modern Greek Studies, University of Amsterdam. The initial section to be presented includes references to 800 Greek literary authors (in approximately 7,000 entries). Please register here. More information on the event here. The CENSUS in 2020-2021 New collaboration for the CENSUS: Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation - University of Amsterdam (Marilena Laskaridis Endowed Chair of Modern Greek Studies) With the support of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, the CENSUS project has begun a new collaboration with the Marilena Laskaridis Endowed Chair of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Support in the form of a grant from the Foundation is enabling a new initiative whereby select faculty and students connected with the Marilena Laskaridis Chair in Amsterdam are participating in research for the CENSUS through seminars begun in Amsterdam and continuing (through transatlantic connections) online. The collaboration has been facilitated by Prof. Maria Boletsi, incumbent of the Marilena Laskaridis Chair, and Dr. Tatiana Markaki, Chair of the Dept. of Modern Greek Language and Culture. The initial phase of the collaboration supported by the Foundation’s grant ran throughout the spring of 2020. The CENSUS team is pleased to announce that the Foundation subsequently renewed its grant for the second semester of 2020 as well as again for the first semester of 2021, and that the successful collaboration with the University of Amsterdam is continuing. The Foundation is also supporting research development at the CENSUS’ home base in Boston (USA). The research assistants collaborating with the CENSUS project in Amsterdam are: - Αnthi Argyriou (PhD Candidate at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis; Faculty of Humanities, University of Amsterdam). - Georgios-Evgenios Douliakas (MA Comparative Literature and Cultural Analysis, Leiden University; PhD Candidate at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis; Faculty of Humanities, University of Amsterdam). - Dr. Charalambos Passalis (philologist, guest lecturer at the Department of Modern Greek Studies of the University of Amsterdam, 2019-2022). More information can be found on the following websites: Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation and the Dutch Society for Modern Greek Studies (NGNS). Advancing into 2021-2022: The CENSUS project is aiming at releasing its first results in early 2022, as one of the 130 international projects promoted under the aegis of "Πρωτοβουλία 1821-2021" ('Initiative 1821-2021'). A presentation of the (extensive) section “AUTHORS 19th-21st c.” — to coincide with the celebration of the two hundredth anniversary of the Greek Revolution — is expected to take place under the sponsorship of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
