A Letter From our Board President

Hello MAHA Family,

Well, it is that time again. As we approach the end of our season and the beginning of our State Tournaments, I wanted to reach out to you all and thank you for what as been for the most part a very successful season. I don’t really pay that much attention to the score board when it comes to gauging how successful a season is. My main concern when it comes to the success of a season is; did we provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the kids to play the game of hockey? Other than a couple very little bumps in the road I believe we did that. One of the things that I love to see is also one of the other ways I gauge the success of our program, I call it the sweat and smiles factor. There is nothing I like more than seeing the kids getting off the ice covered in sweat and smiles, it is honestly one of the most gratifying feelings which might sound a little weird, but the sweat and smiles means that they are working hard and having fun and that is honestly all I think I can ask for!

As we approach states, I wanted to offer a couple of friendly reminders. First and foremost, our locker policy is that only coaches, players, and locker room monitors are permitted in the locker rooms. If you are a parent that doesn’t fall under one of those classifications and your child needs help with skates/etc., please have them come out of the locker room for assistance. Also, your children should not be in the locker room until the monitor or coach is there to monitor. This is a USA Hockey SafeSport requirement and is nonnegotiable. I also want to offer a friendly reminder that we are all representatives of this organization, and my expectation is that we all do so respectfully. Being respectful to our coaches, opponents, and officials is not optional. Disrespectful behavior, whether it be on the ice or in the stands is not ok and will not be tolerated. It is very simple really, be nice or be quiet. The world has plenty of negativity, let’s not add to it please.

The other thing that the end of the season brings are our annual Board or Director’s elections. This year’s ballot will include the following positions: President, Treasurer, and 6 Director’s. Then after those elections take place, at the first meeting of the new board the positions of Director of Coaching, State Representative, and Head of Fundraising will be appointed by the board. For position descriptions of the Board of Director’s please click the link to the MAHA Bylaws https://cdn1.sportngin.com/attachments/document/0153/1534/MAHA_Bylaw_2018-2019.pdf?_gl=1*1pwvms6*_ga*MTYyNTg4Mzg2My4xNzAxNDYzODEy*_ga_PQ25JN9PJ8*MTcwNzUwMTkwNC40My4xLjE3MDc1MDE5MTguMC4wLjA.#_ga=2.84267486.679450218.1707184605-1625883863.1701463812. Elections will be held during the last week of March, please be on the lookout for those details to come in a separate communication. So, for anyone interested in any of these positions please submit a letter of interest for the specific position you are interested into our Secretary, Kim Delorme at kimdelorme05@yahoo.com by March 1st. I highly encourage anyone and everyone to get involved on some level. If a board position is not something that interests you, then maybe locker room monitor, or team coordinator is something you could do and in my opinion both those duties are far more successful when shared and they don’t just fall to one person. The fundraising committee is also a great please to contribute!!

Speaking of the fundraising committee I want to take a minute to say how incredibly grateful I am for all the hard work they do! For the last several years that committee has been led by Angela DeSanctis. Angela has done such an amazing job elevating the level and quality of our Fundraising efforts and has built a fantastic team. I can’t say enough about what Angela has done for this organization or how much she will be missed!! Angela’s hard work and dedication has benefitted us all in ways most of us will never know and I am incredibly sad to see her go but I completely understand and respect that it is time for her to focus her energy elsewhere. I am confident that the team Angela has assembled will provide a solid base for us to work from. That said, Angela’s departure leaves a significant hole to be filled and I highly encourage anyone interested in fundraising (and keeping rates low) to get involved. It is a very positive and impactful way to help the organization!

In closing, I again want to thank everyone that has contributed to a happy and positive season for the kids. Good luck to all our teams entering state tournaments, play hard and have fun! I hope this season has been a good one and that I will see you all again next season.

Sincerely,

Corey Fregeau

MAHA President
