AII Postdoc grant result: Possibility for hepatitis C vaccine in sight by unraveling the spike structure
Kwinten Sliepen was awarded the AII Postdoc Grant in 2021 for his research proposal “Structure of the hepatitis C virus E1E2 glycoprotein complex”. With this grant Kwinten and colleagues unraveled the structure of the spike protein of the hepatitis C virus which is crucial for vaccine development.

A grant of 200,000 euros has been awarded to Dr. Derk Jan Jager and colleagues to set up a study on the safety and efficacy of a drug (AZD9056) for patients with Sjögren’s syndrome. This study will examine whether the drug is able to preserve the function of the salivary glands in patients with Sjögren's syndrome.
PERMEABLE is a research project on predictors of response to novel treatments for children and young adults with severe asthma and allergy. The PERMEABLE consortium has developed a video on their research project: Personalized Medicine Approach for asthma and allergy Biologicals Selection. The video is part of the video challenge of ERA PerMed.
The Universities of the Netherlands (UNL), the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) launched the platform WetenschapVeilig for academics who are being threatened or harassed.
In the fall and winter, respiratory viruses occur in significant numbers. Yet the COVID-19 fall wave seems to have passed its peak. How can that be? Marjolein van Egmond and Hans Zaaijer explain.
A large clinical study at four Dutch university hospitals has shown that booster vaccinations against the coronavirus work for people with a new kidney, contrary to previous research.
HIV-1 infected African populations who receive cART treatment and suffer from metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of arteriosclerosis or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The main causality for the increased cardiovascular risk being the HIV-infection itself, Titus Francis Msoka and collagues discovered.
Monkeypox infections are declining. Henry de Vries, dermatologist and professor of skin infections at Amsterdam UMC, recently shared his knowledge about the monkeypox virus with NOS.
Amsterdam UMC researchers discovered an antibody that protects against RS virus in newborns. Last month, the EMA issued a positive advice for this antibody drug, called Nirsevimab.
