About this ebook

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ YES!... entirely captivating, the plot twists at the end had me on the edge of my seat… Mind blown. Do yourselves a favour, READ IT! Goodreads Reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was happy my husband died, but I couldn’t admit it, otherwise people might think I killed him.

Before

Olivia knows she is lucky. She has a loving husband, Frank, an adorable son, Jake, and a beautiful new home. It couldn’t be more different from her childhood on the outskirts of Whitaker, dirt poor and dreaming of getting out. But at the end of long days with no one to talk to, always feeling like she’s not quite good enough, she starts to wonder if there’s a better life waiting…

After

Everyone in Whitaker knows who Olivia is. She’s the woman who left her family for no-good Dane Miller, and the one who most likely shot him. Now, there’s gossip about her everywhere she goes, she’s too scared to leave the house most days, and she barely gets to see her beloved son.

But if the police and the world think she’s guilty, there’s only one thing she can do—prove her innocence herself. Even if that means putting her own life in danger…

An absolutely gripping, heart-pounding suspense novel about bad choices and second chances. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gray.

2.5 stars Some Days are Dark makes some mighty big promises in that subtitle. Sadly, it doesn't quite deliver for me. The opening line of the book was certainly promising, and I was all set to hunker down and enjoy the read. Now, I will say that the book is well written for the most part. The writing is crisp and sharp, and this one could've been at least close to the promise in the subtitle had it not been dragged out quite so far. But it is what it is, and the longer this one went on, the less I wanted to keep pushing through. My biggest problem is that the plot has been done and done again, and it was way too predictable - and yes, that includes what I'm assuming is supposed to be the 'breathtaking twist.' Honestly, I think I would've enjoyed that twist more had I not been looking for it, but since I was looking for it, I just wound up disappointed. The author does give us some interesting characters in this one. None of them likable, but they are interesting in that looking at a train wreck sort of way. In the end, this one was more domestic drama than anything else. I didn't get that sense of tension or urgency due to the predictability of it, so I can't really say that I felt any real suspense or thrills. It's just too bad that the rest of the book didn't live up to the terrific opening line.

The striking cover and the blurb are what initially drew me to this book. But when I read the first sentence in chapter one, I was instantly hooked. I mean how could I not be with these words? “I was happy my husband died, but I couldn’t admit it, otherwise, people might think I killed him.” What a spectacular way to kick things off and it was from that point on, as I frantically flipped the pages on my kindle, that it just kept getting better and better as the story progressed. What a wild ride Miranda takes the reader on and it is one that left me shaking when it was all over! Miranda has crafted a deliciously wicked tale that is both captivating and compelling. Full of tension and suspense, the story is told from the perspective of main protagonist Olivia Miller. It starts 18 months after the murder of her husband Dane Miller, Olivia was the prime suspect, but this changed when local homeless man, Marcus Rowe, confessed to committing the crime. But just before the trial starts, the lack of evidence to support his guilt shows that Marcus gave a false confession and suspicion once again falls on Olivia. It is then with the help of true crime blogger and writer Brock Bowen, that Olivia sets out to find the real killer and to prove her innocence once and for all. I really liked how Miranda structured the story, while we start the story after the murder has occurred, she then alternates the chapters between the timelines before and after the murder took place. She provides a great backstory on Olivia, where circumstances and bad choices see her going from having everything with her first husband Frank and son Jake, to losing it all when she leaves Frank to be with Dane. As a debut novel, Miranda has done a really great job with this book and she is definitely one to watch out for in the suspense thriller genre. With a fast-paced enthralling plot, well-developed characters, a twist that I didn’t see coming, all told through writing that is fluid and engaging, Some Days Are Dark is a great book and is a must add to your reading list. It was a pleasure to read and review Some Days Are Dark which I recommend. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Miranda Smith for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Some Days Are Dark which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Olivia arrives home to find her husband on the sofa .. dead of a gunshot. They had argued violently the night before ... and the police look as her as a prime suspect. But someone confesses to the crime .. a low level criminal. Olivia can now relax and admit to herself that she's actually glad her husband is dead. That solves so many problems in her life. But then the man recants his confession and proof is found that he was nowhere the residence of Olivia. She's back on the post again. No one really seems to believe that she had nothing to do with his death .. .not her first husband, his finacee, friends and associates, the police, especially one very determined detective who literally stalks her every move. So if she didn't kill him ...who did? and why? The story bounces from Olivia's life before her husband was killed and then afterwards. Olivia becomes known as the woman who left her family, husband and son, to be with another man. But if the police and the world think she’s guilty, there’s only one thing she can do—prove her innocence herself. Even if that means putting her own life in danger… And her own investigation comes across a lot of information about her husband ... secrets he never shared with her ... another life that he kept hidden. This is a riveting thriller ... full of surprises with stand-out characters. Highly suspenseful, especially when a true crime blogger becomes involved. Olivia would do well to remember keep your friends close, your enemies closer. The double-whammy unexpected ending is like icing on the cake. Highly recommend this one! Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Psychological Thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
